This shepherd’s hut provides idyllic lakeside accommodation, for couples looking to relax, or explore this isolated and rural location.
These wonderful shepherd’s huts are located on the edge of a carp lake, and are now delightful holiday cabins, situated in the grounds of the owner’s home, offering a peaceful retreat on the edge of the Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire border. Watch the continuous antics of the varied birdlife visiting the lake from the balcony. Set in the heart of the Blackmore Vale, renowned for its natural beauty, Bankside and Lakeside Hut provide an ideal base from which to explore the many attractions in the area. Gillingham has a rich history dating back over 1000 years, and has enjoyed mentions in a great deal of literature, including the work of Thomas Hardy. Shaftesbury is a small market town in Dorset with a recorded history that goes back to the Anglo Saxon times. You can experience what it was like back in King Alfred’s time, whilst walking round the ruins of the abbey, or just enjoying the history of the area displayed in the Gold Hill Museum. The town is the home of Gold Hill, made famous by the ‘Hovis’ advertisement, and has magnificent views over the Blackmore Vale. There is a wide variety of independent shops, pubs and restaurants for tourists to enjoy. This is known as the ‘Gateway to the South West’, from which you can tour the area from Stonehenge in the east, to Bath and Bristol to the north, and Bournemouth and the Jurassic Coast to the south. A visit to the National Trust Stourhead House and Gardens is also recommended. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

"We had a lovely time, however, the garden wasn’t completely enclosed and our cocker spaniel escaped several times"
    Tina – 5 Oct 2018
"It was a lovely spot very relaxing loads of places to go but the beds were small and narrow and the stench from the chicken farm was not nice it made me want to be sick but other than that the hut was lovely quirky but won't be going again"

"Perfect, Peaceful, Clean Friendly and well equipped. Location great! My only criticism is something they were burning was really over powering and only a little way from the Shepherds Hut i know its a working Farm and its one small thing ??"
    Robert – 6 Jul 2018
"Peace and quiet, surrounded by sheep, birds and fish. A delightful location. The fishing was very good, the challenge was to avoid the small fry taking your bait before the bigger ones find it.The hut was clean and provided all that was required for a good holiday. The owners were helpful and provided details of local facilities. We enjoyed our week and Bella, our dog, loved it."
    nerys – 6 Jul 2018

    Jacqueline – 6 Jun 2018
"A perfect location to relax and enjoy life at a slower pace. We were very fortunate with the weather which meant we were able to make the most of this beautiful, tranquil spot and enjoy it's wild life. Debbie and Lester were most welcoming and the bottle of wine in the fridge a very thoughtful gesture. We certainly look forward to a return visit in the future."
