As far as holiday destinations go, Northamptonshire is probably the most underrated county in England. Its geographic location in the heart of England has given it a rich history from Roman roads to Saxon and Viking occupation, Civil War battles and thriving industry; it is as lively today as it has ever been. The Coach House, situated three miles from Northampton in the lovely village of Wootton, is a wonderful place to stay. The Grade II listed cottage, which sleeps four people in two bedrooms, is a short walk from the village amenities including the Yeoman of England pub. Despite this, it is nice and peaceful with the owners creating a comfortable stay for you to start and end every memorable day. Northamptonshire's countryside and comfortable proximity to major cities like London and Birmingham (you can reach both by train from Northampton within an hour) made it a favourite with aristocrats and gentry for building their country houses, giving it the nickname of "the County of Shir
The Coach House is an exceptionally lovely cottage in the popular Northampton village of Wootton. Staying here puts you within walking distance of the village centre, including the popular Yeoman of England pub, but, because the house is set back from the road, it is pleasantly quiet and peaceful. With easily enough space for four adults in two bedrooms, The Coach House is a good option for couples and or friends who want a holiday property with charm and character as well as comfort.
Wootton has a good choice of shops including a well-stocked village store and several great takeaways, and there is a 24-hour supermarket a few minutes’ drive from the house. Northampton is a few minutes by car - a lively town packed full of diversions and entertainment including a cinema, casino, art museum, church, and an enormous selection of shops from modern shopping centres to quirky antique shops. For those who prefer to travel by public transport, there is bus stop to and from Northampton town centre directly outside to cottage (literally within yards!). There are also some beautiful places to walk and cycle near Wootton, plus almost a dozen golf courses within a 45-minute radius.
There are very good bus, train and road links to the village which makes it easy for guests to reach all the fantastic attractions in Northampton and the surrounding area, and what a lot of them there are! If the weather is nice, a walk around Stanwick Lakes, with its wealth of wildlife, sculpture trail, play area and assault course is a must-do. Visit Grade I listed Althorp House or go to Castle Ashby and stroll around the breathtaking formal gardens and parkland; while a few hours at Sywell Country Park and Wicksteed Park are both great. Other nearby attractions include Rushden Lakes Shopping, Silverstone, Lamport Hall and the Northampton and Lamport Steam Railway, Salcey Forest, and the site of the Battle of Naseby which was one of the last significant battles of the English Civil War.
The central location of The Coach House makes it perfect not only for exploring Northamptonshire but also for visiting the surrounding counties as well. Take a day trip to Coventry, Stratford-upon-Avon or Cambridge. See Bletchley Park or take The Making of Harry Potter Warner Bros studio tour. You can even be in the centre or Birmingham or London within an hour from Northampton train station! There is no limit to the amount of excitement you can pack into your holiday knowing that you have the comfort of The Coach House to return to for a fantastic night’s sleep so you can do it all again the next day.
