Crown Cottage is a welcoming three-storey house resting in Belper. Offering a well-placed base for two couples, families or friends, positioned near local amenities and only a short distance from the river, the property provides a convenient location for exploring both the local area and the wider Peak District National Park. When you pull up and step out of the car at 14 Crown Terrace, the traditional terrace setting gives an immediate sense of being tucked into the heart of Belper, with the welcoming frontage offering a gentle introduction to your stay. As you make your way inside, the open plan living space invites you further in, drawing you toward the kitchen, dining area and sitting area where you can unwind after time spent exploring the town.
The layout encourages you to settle straight into holiday mode, perhaps placing a bag on the dining table before heading to the kitchen to put the kettle on. Here, the warmth of the oven and hob, along with the simplicity of the fridge, toaster and other essentials, make preparing meals feel pleasantly straightforward. As you continue through the property, the utility room adds an extra touch of practicality during your stay. Heading upstairs, the first floor presents a double bedroom where you can set your belongings down and take a moment to relax. Climbing further to the top of the house, the second-floor king-size bedroom offers a peaceful retreat with the quietness that comes from being slightly removed from the activity below.
Back on the lower floors, the bathroom, set with a freestanding bath, basin and WC, offers a space to slow down, unwind and enjoy a long soak after days spent exploring the landscapes around Belper. Stepping back outside, the courtyard provides a sheltered corner where you can sit out with a drink as the day draws to a close. From the door, the local shop and welcoming pub are only a brief stroll away, with the river also close enough for gentle ambles along the water. The surrounding area offers rewarding days out, including the wide, open scenery of the Peak District National Park, along with visits to Derby, Matlock and Ashbourne.
Within an hour, you can reach Chatsworth House for grand rooms and expansive parkland, the Heights of Abraham for hilltop views reached by cable car, or the charming market town of Bakewell where riverside walks, local shops and sweet treats await, each adding memorable highlights to your stay at Crown Cottage.
Belper, situated in the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage site, is a town with a long and famous history dating back to the 13th century, when it was then called Beaurepaire (beautiful retreat), a name that still holds true today. Now you'll find it to be a spirited and bustling town, with attractions including the North Mill, Long Row and the River Gardens. There is a thriving local music and arts scene and the town hosts an annual Arts festival every May as well as Winter and Summer Food festivals and a monthly Farmers Market. The nearby historical village of Wirksworth is also home to a well-established Art and Architecture trail and Arts Festival every September. Just 10 miles away, the popular Peak District town of Matlock, together with its neighbour, Matlock Bath, are set in the beautiful wooded gorge of the River Derwent. The Matlocks offer a range of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as a whole host of other exciting attractions. Magnificent views down the gorge can be enjoyed from the cable car, which takes visitors up to the Heights of Abraham - a great place for all the family! South of the town is the start of the High Peak Cycle Trail, whilst to the north lie the market town of Bakewell and Chatsworth House - not to be missed! The award-winning town of Belper provides holidaymakers with an excellent base for all that Derbyshire has to offer.
