About this property

Ashbourne 2.1 miles. Tucked away in the idyllic village of Mayfield near Ashbourne, Staffordshire, is this fantastic three-bedroom house, Meadow View. Named after the charming views on offer from the property and making up half of the former village pub, Meadow View is a superb dwelling for a group or family of six. Look forward to cooking up a storm in the well-equipped kitchen/diner, ready to savour at the dining table for six, or alfresco out in the rear enclosed garden as you soak up the last of the day's sun. After dinner, retreat to the light and airy sitting room, where you can curl up on the plush seating and select your favourite series from the TV, as the electric fire gently warms the space. Continue upstairs to the first floor to find a well-appointed bathroom where you can freshen up with a soak or rinse after a day of exploring, along with two beautifully decorated bedrooms, a king-size with TV and a twin with views of the meadows. The second floor hosts the final bedroom, a spacious double with Velux windows, affording lovely views and natural light. Explore the village, where you can treat your loved ones to a well-deserved meal at the Royal Oak Inn, followed by a leisurely stroll along the River Dove. For a wider selection of amenities, head to Ashbourne, where you can dine at The Bridge, stock up on essentials at the convenience stores, picnic in Ashbourne Park, or time your visit right to attend the annual Shrovetide football match which takes place on Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday. For great days out take a trip to Alton Towers or Dovedale with lots for the family to enjoy. From here you can easily access the stunning surroundings of the Peak District National Park, with a plethora of scenic walking and cycling trails, caves to explore, and the historic sites of Throwley Old Hall and Pilsbury Castle. Venture further to Matlock, home to the Heights of Abraham, Hall Leys Park and the Peak Rail, along with neighbouring Matlock Bath where you will find Gulliver’s Kingdom and the Peak District Museum. Adventure awaits at Meadow View.

When it comes to English market towns, Ashbourne is hard to beat. It has everything: a bustling marketplace, charming cobbled streets and alleyways, historic coaching inns and charitable institutions. Some of the town's finest Georgian structures can still be found in the city's historic centre. There are still a lot of restaurants and inns in the town, which makes it a popular spot for antique shoppers, but don't anticipate a good deal! The Dove and Manifold Valleys are nearby for those who prefer more active pastimes, while Alton Towers, home to an intriguing collection of thrills and attractions, is only a short journey away for thrill seekers.

Inside the cottage it was very nice but let down by lack of cleanliness. We had to wash out the fridge and numerous cooking utensils before we could use them. There was also a lot of dust and cobwebs around the various rooms which was a shame as otherwise it was a good stay. It's well positioned for walking and local facilities. Better parking notes could have been easier, when arriving during the dark winter months. arriving in the dark during winter months.

Everything was in the cottage that was needed and it was comfortable and cosy,

Parking is understandable for a Peak District village. Shame the leave time was 09:00 on Sunday as it was preying on our mind the night before and had to get things packed in order to be ready to leave. Should consider 10:00 leave time. Otherwise thanks for the stay.
