Very disappointing property. 2 Heaters were not working so we were cold. Unfortunately we were there during an unusual cold wet spell, the shower was a disgrace as was the toilet. We had to fill the tank with 2 kettles of water to make it flush or wait a good 20mins for it to fill on its own! Everything was shabby and badly maintained. No storage for our food. no egg cups for breakfast eggs the towels were like sandpaper bathroom door wouldn't close and access to the bedroom was by poking a finger through a drilled hole to reach the latch! Curtains were old and faded but worse were the steps up to the property. They were dangerous and slippery covered in moss, a very wobbly wooden hand rail was flimsy and dangerous both going up and down especially with suitcases. The entrance step had worn away and made it hard to enter through the door. Health and Safety people would have a fit. We have stayed in lots and lots of UK holiday properties over the years and have never been instructed to totally strip the bed and place in laundry bags as was with the towels etc. We were paying guests for heaven.s sake. We could not find any instructions for electrical items either. The owner did provide a low output electric heater for the bedroom but it was inefficient. All in all it was an unpleasant break and we came home a day early after telling the owner of our decision. I am so worried about those concrete steps etc. as someone is going to have a bad fall sooner than later.Sorry to moan but felt you needed to know that an inspection is long over do. The only good thing was the electric blanket on the bed.

We had a lovely long weekend at The Saddlery recently. It’s in the perfect location, with walks straight from the house and within short driving distance to many other popular walks. The pub in the village was great, good food and friendly service. The accommodation itself was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The farm has 2 friendly dogs who greeted us each time we arrived home! Thanks Ruth for a lovely stay in Shirley.
