About this property

The Farm House at Rowling End sits in an oasis of calm in the picturesque Newlands Valley, in the heart of the Lake District close to Derwent Water (fifteen minute walk) and Keswick (four miles). With fabulous walks straight from the front door (many which are favourites of Wainwright!), The Farm House is an excellent choice for walkers as well as those looking to explore the many attractions of the National Park or simply relax in a stunning setting.

The Farm House is located at Rowling End next to the owners other holiday homes, The Old Barn sleeps 6, The Mouse House sleeps 2 and Rowling End House sleeps 8 and offers self-catering for 24 guests in total. Sitting in an idyllic position. Views out the windows are amazing, overlooking Catbells and Maiden Moor.

Lake Derwentwater is a pleasant fifteen minute walk away across the fields and from here you can catch a ferry to Keswick. The cottage provides a great starting point for a number of Lakeland walks. Whether you want to discover the beauty of the high fells, the lakes and valleys or simply immerse yourself in glorious scenery, it is very well located providing direct access to some of Wainwright's favourite walks (which include Coledale Round, Catbells and Newlands Round) and the fells.

Dogs have always enhanced the owner's family’s enjoyment of walking and you are very welcome to bring your own dog to share your holiday with you.

Braithwaite Village is only three miles from The Farm House at Rowling End where you will find a choice of pubs and shop, and close to home, the Swinside Inn serving excellent food and drink is just a mile walk away over the fields (or down the lane).

Alfred Wainwright, the famous fell walker loved the tranquility and freedom of the Newlands Valley which is every bit as evident today. Rowling End itself was a working farm up until the 1950s with the surrounding land still being grazed by neighbouring cattle.

Whilst The Farm House at Rowling End is in a delightful secluded position, it has a wealth of attractions within easy reach being centrally located in the heart of the Northern Lakes with Borrowdale, Derwentwater, Buttermere and Keswick easily accessible - whether by foot, bike or car.

For those new to walking in the Lakes, climbing Catbells (located directly opposite) is a must and offers magnificent views where on a clear day you can see the Solway Firth.

Much of the land surrounding The Farm House is quite marshy and provides a haven for wildlife including buzzard and deer. You are also welcome to walk the fields (at your own risk) but need to be mindful of any livestock and leave the wildlife undisturbed.

There are plenty of things to do and see in this area to keep all ages amused, including: Honister slate mines; Borrowdale Go Ape; Braithwaite Keswick Climbing Wall; Whinlatter Forest; Cumberland pencil museum; The puzzling place; Newlands Adventure centre; Keswick Mire House; Keswick Trotters world of animals; Keswick Alhambra cinema; Keswick Launch ferry and Thronthwate Galleries.

For those who want to venture a little further afield, Penrith is twenty one miles, Carlisle thirty five miles and Workington is twenty miles.
