Clean throughout in a great location for exploring Keswick and the lakes, within walking distance of Keswick and Derwent Water. Well equipped kitchen.Bedrooms are on first floor and attic with tight 90 degree turns so consider if infirm or with small children, although a stair gate is provided.The outdoor table and seating is in a neighbours garden through a gate.Parking is on-road and as the accommodation is close to Keswick, the area is popular with 'day trippers' so be prepared to park on neighbouring streets as we did. Maybe a little TLC required after a long season, but would recommend for adults with older children.

The cottage was clean and in a good location for the town and lake.. very small which was fine but lots of steep stairs to negotiate if staying in the twin bedroom in the loft conversion. Beds were comfortable and there was a decent shower. There was a very musty smell in the cottage particularly noticeable on entry.. Not sure about shared garden.. there was a garden with a separate gate but no garden furniture.. cottage was however adequate for our stay of 3 nights..

Alvamere is situated on a quiet street, within a few minutes walking distance from the centre of Keswick, shops, parks, and jetties for boat trips on Derwent Water (reached quickly by following the path past St John's Church). It is also fairly close to the bus stop at Booths where you can catch a local bus or buses to other parts of the Lake District and beyond. This was all vital to us as we don't drive, and arrived in Keswick via bus from Penrith rail station.One lovely short walk from the house is to Castle Head, a hill covered in mature woodland with a great view from the top, although some may find the steep and rocky highest part of the path difficult. A walk from the jetties to Friar's Crag is also very pleasant and much easier, and you can continue along the side of the Derwent Water from there. If you take a boat trip round the Derwent, you can either stay on the boat or hop off and on at the various jetties, which is excellent for going on walks.
