This luxurious contemporary three bedroom apartment, forms part of an exclusive development in the former Swan Hotel, a 17th century coaching inn and is luxuriously furnished and equipped throughout. The open plan living space has a large window affording views out towards the attractive rear garden and Skiddaw and Keswick beyond, while the kitchen is hand built painted solid oak with black marble worktops. The decked area has wonderful views of the valley and fells beyond and there is an immaculate landscaped communal garden with pond.
Situated in the village of Thornthwaite, 3 miles from Keswick, the apartment has an elevated aspect to the rear commanding fantastic views across the valley to Skiddaw and the fells surrounding Keswick. Carrigbaun is Gaelic for ’White Rock’, after The Bishop, a famous white rock perched on the steep scree slopes of Barf nearby. Thornthwaite itself lies at the south western end of Bassenthwaite Lake, below Whinlatter Forest, Barf and Lords Seat. Sailing and fishing are available on Whinlatter. There are pubs, restaurants and a shop nearby in Braithwaite and a wealth of amenities in Keswick including the ’Theatre by the Lake’.

The cottage itself is lovely. Without wishing to sound like a broken record, there are some niggly things that need looking at such as lights not working, mould in the downstairs shower room, shower trays filling with water. I was also disappointed with the lack of basic things for a self catering property. No washing up liquid, hand soap in the bathrooms, diswash tabs and no hairdryer

Sadly there were a few annoying issues that has been pointed out to the owner from the previous guests in the visitors guest book, that could of easily been rectified but were not, the biggest problem was the musty smell coming from the downstairs bedroom, which my daughter was staying in, we couldnt work out where the smell was coming from we also noticed that there was mold on her bedding so my daughter had to share a bedroom with her brother, not ideal when my daughter is 15!!! what was more sad was it has been mentioned by other guests as well and still not been sorted out.

Fantastic location, overall the property is ok,but could be excellent with a few minor improvments,all the beds require new matresses,they were ok but you could feel the springs,missing bulbs or not working lights in the hallway ,not a great first impresstion when you arrive as there is no natural light in this part of the property, there is also a very worn small chair in the sitting room that realy lets it down, requires replacment.All the above is a shame as the views from the main window and the garden are stunning, the appartment was clean and tidy on arrival it just requires a little TLC .We would stay again but it could be made so much beter with a few improvments that would make all the difference to any stay.
