Skiddaw 19 is a hidden gem, found resting just a stone’s throw away from the River Greta and just a short walk from the town centre of Keswick. Perfectly positioned within the Lake District, this Scandinavian-style lodge has been designed with a family in mind to offer a wonderful place to return to at the end of each action-packed day. Built from highest quality Lakeland Slate and Swedish timber, the lodge boasts a unique reserve-level layout to ensure that the treetop views can be highlighted. Relax into your evenings within the hub of the home, the spacious open-plan living room, where the picture window floods natural light into the space to create a tranquil ambiance and to ensure that the views can be enjoyed from each corner of the room.
The kitchen comes well-equipped with everything to cater to your culinary needs, as well as a handy dishwasher so serve as a helping hand when it comes up cleaning up. Relish in your home-cooked meals at the formal dining table before popping open a bottle of something fizzy and toasting to a wonderful holiday; this is a great space to enjoy hours of board games brought from home or to pull open the map to plan the next day’s adventure. Afterwards, kick back and relax on the plush sofas, where you can enjoy a film on the TV or get lost within that book that you have been meaning to read.
During balmy afternoon, open up the picture window to discover a large balcony area, where table and chairs offer an alternative option for dining or sitting underneath a canopy of stars with a warming drink in hand. Alternatively, choose to treat yourself with a relaxing soak in the bath, situated within the family bathroom on the ground floor before finding your sleeping spot in one of the two bedrooms. Here, choose between a twin bedroom and the master bedroom, where you will find a king-size bed with a TV, perfect for those lazy mornings and access to its own en-suite shower room.
If you can tear yourself away from this interesting lodge, take a short stroll along the River Greta to discover your surroundings further before reaching the town centre, where you will find a fantastic array of shops, ranging from craft bakeries, antiques, crafts and much, much more, in addition to an award-winning market. For the evenings where you do not feel like cooking, be sure to sample the fine cuisine within town, home to a whole host of pubs, restaurants, bistros, cafes and wine bars. During the daytime, unravel the town’s history by visiting the endearing Pencil Museum, Keswick Museum, the Puzzling Place or hopping on-board one of the regular cruises to visit the National Trust property of Derwent Island House.
Other nearby attractions include the historic site of Castlerigg Stone Circle, the 400 seat Theatre By The Lake on the shores of Derwentwater or heading underground to discover the Honister Slate Mines.
