The Old Stable in Keswick is a charming, well-decorated cottage in an unbeatable central location, perfect for exploring the town and surrounding walks. Guests consistently praise its cosy atmosphere, comfortable bed, and quiet setting despite being close to amenities. While the property is compact and best suited for short stays or solo travellers, it is well-equipped for basic needs. Some minor issues with maintenance, storage, and kitchen essentials were noted, but overall, guests enjoyed their stay and would recommend it for couples seeking a convenient base in Keswick.
Most guests found the property clean and tidy, though a few mentioned areas needing extra attention, such as dusting and cleaning behind the bed. Overall, cleanliness was generally good but could benefit from a more thorough approach.
The location is frequently described as excellent, central, and ideal for exploring Keswick, with easy access to shops, restaurants, and walks. Guests consistently highlight this as a major advantage.
The bed is widely praised for comfort, but the compact size, low beams, and less comfortable sofa may not suit everyone, especially for longer stays or those with mobility issues. Best for short breaks or solo travellers.
The cottage is generally well-equipped, but guests noted minor issues such as limited kitchenware, intermittent WiFi, unclear instructions for appliances, and occasional maintenance problems (e.g., toilet, hot water). Improvements in these areas would enhance the experience.
Guests noted a lack of welcome gifts or basic provisions such as tea, coffee, milk, or kitchen essentials. While some properties offer these as a gesture, they are not guaranteed at The Old Stable.

Lovely little cottage right in the heart of Keswick – you could hardly ask for a better location, with almost everything within easy walking distance. Now for the cottage treasure hunt! Despite previous reviews mentioning a few things, some seem to have become part of the furniture. The champagne flute is still flying solo, there was only half a loo roll left (possibly a thoughtful gift from the previous guests), and the wine glasses were still one short, so we decided to leave four behind for future visitors and do our bit for the local glassware population. The heating and hot water work perfectly well, but they do like to keep you guessing for a while before kicking into action. Patience is rewarded!Cleanliness could do with a little more attention, especially the spider webs, which appear to have secured a long-term tenancy. We stripped the bed and put the bedding in the washing machine as requested, although a few extra touches from the cleaning team would make a big difference.Future guests may want to pack their own favourite pillow, along with extra loo roll, kitchen roll, laundry powder and washing-up liquid, just to avoid any surprise shopping trips.Overall, though, this is a great little cottage in a fantastic location. With a bit more attention to cleanliness and a successful negotiation with the resident spiders, it could easily be a five-star stay.

Two major plus points for the Old Stable perfectly sized for a couple and within minutes of the centre of Keswick with all it's shops, pubs and eateries. On the downside - hot water. Non existent for us so we had to call Cottages.com for assistance. Called at 6pm and a heating engineer on site within the hour, well done Cottages.com Apparently the property has separate heating & hot water systems. There was a cryptic note in the kitchen about 'hot water' problems so obviously an ongoing issue. With the assistance of the engineer we did get hot water that night and for the rest of our stay. A much clearer instruction on how to function the water system would be a big improvement.Overall an enjoyable stay.

Having read previous reviews I wasn’t sure what to expect, but what I found was a perfect little getaway for 2. We stayed for 5 nights. Warm, great location, comfy bed, good bathroom, quaint. We loved it. Yes there is only 1 champagne flute, but there are 4 wine glasses!! Yes it is small, but we knew this when we booked and spending time in Keswick for 5 days for us it about spending time out day and night. Yes the tv didn’t work, but again we didn’t go to Keswick for the tv. The only real thing I could say is it just needs a little spring clean. We had to give the table and a few other bits a good dust and a feather duster would get rid of the cobwebs of which there were quite a few. Overall we WILL definitely go again, we loved it. Don’t go if you want to stay in day and night as it won’t be for you.
