As for water-based activities on Derwentwater, if you don’t fancy kayaking, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, swimming or rowing, you could also have a peaceful day fishing, enjoying a picnic with an unforgettable view or hopping aboard one of the regular launches for a cruise across the water. There’s mountain biking at Whinlatter Forest (7 miles), where you’ll also find Go Ape’s tree-top courses and zip wires.
