The lovely open-plan living/dining room at Howbeck Cottage is furnished with comfy sofas, whilst the galley-style modern kitchen boasts great appliances (including a dishwasher), and that all-important coffee machine! The stylishly furnished bedrooms ensure a good night’s sleep in the sumptuous beds with crisp white linen. Howbeck Cottage is set quietly on the fringes of a small Cumbrian village, nestling in the Caldbeck Fells on the northern edge of the Lake District National Park. The village is home to a micro-brewery and community-owned shop and a post office. Nestled in a tranquil and peaceful location, Howbeck Cottage is perfect for couples or friends who like to get out and explore. The nearby village of Caldbeck offers a variety of attractions including a village shop, a farm dairy shop with fresh milk on ’tap’, two tea rooms, and craft shops, making it a great spot for a circular walk from the cottage on a quiet, relaxing day in the Lake District.
With beautiful walks right from your door, you can head to some of the quieter falls of the Lake District National Park (Northern Fells). Surrounded by a maze of quiet country lanes, you may prefer two wheels! (the cottage is located on the Reivers cycling route.)
The Lake District National Park is renowned for its stunning scenery, and from Howbeck Cottage, you can explore it all. Keswick, surrounded by lakes and mountains, is a 30-minute drive away where you can enjoy a stroll through the lovely market town with its many outdoor and independent shops, friendly cafés, and a variety of dining options, or take in a show at the local theatre.
The market town of Penrith, just 25 minutes away, offers supermarkets and several takeaways, as well as a local swimming pool and gym. Outdoor pools are located close by for the summer months. Of course, no visit to the Lake District National Park is complete without a boat cruise on one of its famous lakes, where you can discover the stunning natural landscapes on a cruise along Lake Windermere, Derwentwater, or, our favourite, Ullswater, all within a short drive of Howbeck Cottage. Beach 21 miles.

Lovely cottage just 5 minutes away from Caldbeck fell such a perfect location to explore.Cottage was clean and comfortable, WiFi worked well and it was very modern inside. There was no washing machine and had to wash our clothes by hand and so a washing machine would make such a difference 🙂

A beautiful stay, in a beautiful cottage and location. The cotttage was clean and really well thoughtout, even the small details (like bird feed to feed the bird's, which the children loved watching in the garden). The cottage is clearly well loved and it shows in the care and detail of the cottage and the detailed information provided to its guests. Everything was organised, convenient and easy, adding to the enjoyment of the holiday. If you are looking for a quiet get away immersed in the countryside and nature we highly recommend. We loved it, we were all sad to leave and would happily stay again. Thank you
