About this property

Thoughtfully refurbished to exacting standards, Fox Hollow is a traditional, detached cottage built from stone. The property is well appointed and has been beautifully finished by the owner - an interior designer, who has successfully created a relaxing retreat, where the emphasis is on comfort through the use of bespoke soft furnishings. Fox Hollow is suitable for couples, families or groups of friends. Located just minutes drive from the shores of Ullswater, nestled in the quiet hamlet of Matterdale End and surrounded by super countryside this is the perfect place to relax and unwind.

A bright and airy, dual aspect lounge is a great place for socialising and enjoying the surroundings whilst reading a good book. Those who are looking for fun and adventure, the kitchen doubles as the map room with the largest OS map you can imagine, perfect for planning your expeditions out and about in the Lake District!

Ullswater, the “Queen of the English Lakes” comes into view as you head down the valley from the cottage. Take to the water on one of the every popular traditional steamers, take a walk along the lake shore path from Glenridding to Howtown, stroll amongst the carpet of daffodils that inspired William Wordsworth's famous poem during the springtime or discover the drama of Aira Force waterfall.

Fox Hollow offers a great base from which to explore the Lake District, visit historical villages, drink in the breathtaking scenery whilst hiking or mountain biking - all from the front door.

The bustling market town of Penrith, once the capital of Cumbria, enjoys a central position between the Lake District and North Pennines and is ideally placed for taking in all that the region has to offer. Renowned for its wealth of specialist shops, the sandstone buildings of Penrith hide intriguing yards, lanes and alleyways, with a myriad of attractive cottages, gardens and little shops. With a wide choice of excellent pubs, hotels, restaurants and entertainment, Penrith also offers a museum, and Millennium Trails round the historic city streets. Within easy reach of the town is Rheged – an innovative visitor centre with shops, restaurants, exhibitions and a giant cinema screen showing educational and informative films. Brougham Castle (The Windsor of the North), Long Meg and her daughters (the 3rd largest stone circle in England) and the historic city of Carlisle are all a short drive away, as is the stunning scenery of both the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
