Dating back to the 11th century, Broughton-in-Furness is situated in the south western corner of the Lake District and is just six miles from Coniston Water. There is much to please the visitor such as a pretty, cobbled square complete with a splendid horse chestnut tree, enclosed by shops, pubs and homes, many of them Georgian in origin. The village provides an ideal base for a walking or climbing holiday, with ample opportunity to explore the rugged beauty of the Duddon Valley and the quieter Lake District fells. Norman Nicholson, one of Britain's finest 20th century poets and William Wordsworth, both immortalised this area in their writing and poetry. The village was home to Branwell Bronte, brother of the Bronte sisters, for a short time.

The cottage was cosy but roomy enough for 7 of us. Louise (owner) is easy to contact and very friendly. A special thankyou to her for taking the trouble to post back a loved "teddy". Everyone we met was so friendly and the area is beautiful. The younger ones loved playing with the dogs and the hot tub was lush. Thankyou.

Warm, welcoming and just so perfect for our Christmas break. The children loved the farm, we all loved the star gazing and I loved the pure beauty of this traditional farmhouse cottage. The whole experience was just what we needed and the location is perfect to travel to lots of beauty spots. Highly recommend
