Columbine Cottage is a charming, whitewashed cottage, nestled in a courtyard with a cluster of similar properties, on the fringe of Hawkshead's picturesque car-free centre, yet only 2 minutes walk from the village shops, pubs and cafes. A superb base for families or groups, with two double bedrooms and one twin. Garage parking for one small car, with space for bikes, and additional parking space externally. Entrance hall, with downstairs WC, leads to the cosy living / dining room with comfy sofas and character beams, and storage cupboard for walking gear. The traditional kitchen is well-equipped with a convenient layout. Upstairs you’ll find two double bedrooms and one twin bedroom. House bathroom with toilet and shower over bath.

Hawkshead is one of the Lake District’s prettiest villages, to the west of Lake Windermere in stunning surroundings. Nearby is tranquil Esthwaite Water, popular for fishing and famous as the fictional home of Beatrix Potter's 'Jeremy Fisher'. Her former home, Hill Top, is open to the public in the nearby quaint village of Near Sawrey.

Hawkshead is an excellent base for walking in the Lake District, with easy and challenging routes in every direction. A manageable walk around Tarn Hows provides quite unforgettable scenery, whereas the more energetic will be tempted by Latterbarrow, Claife Heights, or perhaps the Langdale Pikes and Coniston Fells which are both within a short scenic drive. A 3 mile walk to the National Trust owned lakeshore Wray Castle (and cafe) is another delight. Grizedale Forest just a short drive away has sculpture trails and cycling tracks and is popular with locals and visitors of all ages.

Whilst Hawkshead village has a wide range of tempting tea rooms and tasty eateries, there are lots of country pubs in the surrounding area. The Drunken Duck Inn is a favourite. Ambleside is only a short drive away, with lots more facilities and here you can enjoy the north shore and lake cruises on Lake Windermere.
