With views over Grasmere to the famous Helm Crag, also known as the 'Lion & Lamb' this impressive home is in an elevated position only a short stroll (15 minutes) from the centre of Grasmere. Eller Close House adjoins two smaller cottages and is set within lovely gardens. The interior is restful, contemporary and comfortable, with en-suite bathrooms to every bedroom, everyone has their own space. Enter Eller Close House through the gardens and two short flights of traditional stone steps lead down a path towards the entrance porch and enter into the hallway. The elegant living room leads through and has a superb splayed window, comfortable furnishings and wood burning stove.
The well-equipped kitchen / dining room follows on and has plenty of space to enjoy meals in. Outside you find large, lovely gardens with a babbling beck running through and outdoor seating, to enjoy the fabulous views looking out to the fells. (Some areas of the garden are shared to walk through by the neighbouring property.). From the doorstep you are in sublime walking country – Helm Crag, Silver how and beyond to the Fairfield Horseshoe. Or you may just fancy a lovely walk around Grasmere & Rydal Water, perhaps taking in Loughrigg Terrace. The historic village itself is full of poets, artists and Lakeland heritage: Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage is open to the public, and you’ll find many art galleries and lovely shops here – in particular the Heaton Cooper Studio is a must for art lovers.
The village has local shops and a small supermarket as well as quaint tea rooms cosy pubs, and acclaimed restaurants – the quirky Jumble Room or perhaps the Michelin-starred Forest Side for a special occasion. You’re straight on the main A591, so can access Ambleside in the south, or up to Keswick in the north, both bustling towns with lots going on.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
