Location: Grasmere is located at the very heart of the Lakes, west of Ambleside and north of both Coniston and Hawkshead. A holiday cottage in Grasmere provides easy access to many famous Lake District walking routes. Stride up to Easedale Tarn in the fells above the village, stroll on the peaceful shores of nearby Rydal Water or take on Fairfield, Silver How or Loughrigg to name but a few!

Grasmere village centre has a village green and a number of unique shops, tea rooms and very good restaurants - including the Good Food Guide listed Jumble Room. There are several good pubs in the village and in the surrounding area too. Although hugely popular with tourists and walkers, Grasmere remains a relaxed village location with a fascinating and unique history. Explore the legacy of artists who've been inspired by the landscapes around the village. Of particular note is Heaton Cooper whose studio is in the village. The famous poet William Wordsworth lived in Grasmere while writing some of his most famous poetry. His former home, Dove Cottage, and the Wordsworth Museum can be visited. His family grave in the local churchyard is one of the most visited literary shrines in the world.

A memorable break can be found at Rowanberry Cottage.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Situated in the heart of Grasmere, it is a real gem. Giving access to the shops, galleries and pubs of Grasmere within less than 5 minutes, and with the bus service to the rest of the Lakes we found it an excellent place to stay. The house is situated in an oasis of calm; you feel as if you are right in the fells with wonderful views and with many varieties of birds visiting the garden. Car parking is excellent and the house is very comfortable with all mod cons.

And the sheep in the field next to it!

It never fails to work magic. We loved the beautiful new bathrooms and everything was looking lovely. The colours in the garden almost changed for autumn in front of us.
