Kirkstone Cottage is said to be one of the oldest cottages in Ambleside and dates back to the 15th century. Perfect for couples, this retreat offers a romantic break all year round with scenic attractions on your doorstep. Upon entering you will be welcomed by a charming sitting room, home to a leather sofa, and an arm chair. Relax in the evening amongst the ornamental features and enjoy a cosy night in. The kitchen is complete with charming units and is a comforting place to prepare those home cooked meals before sitting down at the nearby dining table. The bathroom is a wonderful arrangement for getting ready in the morning, or simply relaxing after a long afternoon.
Both a roll-top bath and separate shower cubical set the room off well for an elegant yet quirky ambience. Wander up to the first floor where you will arrive at a king-size double bedroom with exposed beams with the room furnished in a pine overtone and overlooking the Little House on the Bridge. Characterful with patterned bedding and wall mirrors, this room promises a peaceful sleep night after night. For some fresh air, you can rest on the outside bench and take in the lovely location. The town of Ambleside is ideal for central Lakes, with Grasmere and the Langdale Valley just a short drive away.
There is plenty to enjoy here from cruises, boat trips and watersports. On the lakeside at Waterhead, the parkland boasts lovely views down the lake and a short stretch of beach. You are guaranteed a pleasant stay whatever you decide.

Kitchen cupboards and drawers are filthy, the fridge vents are filthy, the fridge shelf is broken, thereâs an ant box in one cupboard, and the bathroom is the same - needs a deep clean - the back of the door was thick with dust, the corners of the room dirty and cobwebs, the shower cubicle needs replacing it is dirty along with the tile grout. The shower broke whilst we were there too and couldnât be replaced until we had left. The bedroom cupboard was full of cobwebs and the skirting boards are filthy. Logs and kindling were left but no fire lighters or means to light the fire. On a positive note - the property is near to town, the bed is comfy and bedding is great. The property would have been perfect if it was cleaned well. My husband cleaned some of it whilst we were there during our Xmas holiday but I have plenty of pictures should they be required.

We wouldn't recommend to people with visual impairment (very 'moody' mood lighting) or who are after total tranquillity (on corner of main road into town). The sofa and the bedsheets did have some noticeable marks and stains on when we got there but otherwise cottage very clean.

This time a very cold December, we stayed Sunday to Sunday but that last weekend was subject to the most heavy snow where it was impossible to get out on our last day Sunday, I emailed the owner Julia to explain the situation and thankfully she said it was no problem to stay till Monday
