Set on the edge of the village and just a few minutes walk from the famous Swan Inn, Lanterns At Grasmere, is a beautifully presented contemporary bungalow. The owners have taken pride to create a high quality property that offers fantastic accommodation in a first class location ideal for family or friends whatever the time of year.All laid out on the ground floor, this bright & airy contemporary home is on the edge of the village, 5 minutes walk from the famous Swan Inn for a cosy pint and food. The Michelin starred Forest Side is probably 10 minutes walk away if you can book a table!
Grasmere itself has many little bistros and pubs, and interesting shops/galleries to wander around as well as stunning walks all around and up to Loughrigg Fell. “The fairest spot and earth” was how William Wordsworth described Grasmere 200 years ago and today this pretty village, remains one of the most delightful parts of the Lake District. 'Lanterns' is a great location and a comfortable contemporary place to stay.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Perfectly situated for walks from the door, comfortable and well appointed. Every cottage has its quirks and Lanterns is no different- for instance the showers are super and hot but take a very long time to get there- but the comfort and peacefulness of the place very much compensate. Great pub close by, fabulous restaurant in the hotel next door and brilliant food at The Yan brasserie a little further up the road. A couple of points to note: the closing catch on the right-hand oven door doesnât work and needs repair, although the left-hand oven works fine. Also, the door to the second en-suite keeps dropping on its hinges, dragging on the floor, and these need re-siting to stay permanently in place. Oh, and donât bother trying to report these or anything else using the phone number provided, the wait-queue time actually increases the longer you stay on the call!

Probably our sixth visit so this speaks volumes. Really good location and all you could want for within the house. We just love it at The Lanterns.

The conservatory was an added bonus for eating and relaxing in. In fact it was difficult to tear ourselves away and go out ! Lovely to watch the farmer tending his sheep in the morning . The two patio areas were also also quiet and peaceful with lovely spring flowering plants . Not far to walk into Grasmere and of course just a short stroll to the Swan . Wouldnât hesitate to return to this lovely bungalow. .
