Mary's Cottage in Grasmere is highly praised for its superb location, with guests enjoying the proximity to pubs, shops, and scenic walks. The hot tub is a standout feature, offering relaxation after exploring the Lake District. The cottage's charm and the village's friendly atmosphere contribute to a delightful stay.
The cottage received mixed feedback on cleanliness. While no specific praise was given, one review mentioned mould issues in the shower room and a heavily iced-up freezer, suggesting room for improvement in this area.
The location is consistently lauded, with guests appreciating the cottage's proximity to local amenities, the countryside, and the lake. It's described as an ideal setting for a relaxing break.
Guests find the cottage comfortable and cosy, with a relaxing garden and hot tub. However, one review suggested the addition of an extra armchair, indicating that while comfort is generally high, there could be enhancements.
Facilities are well-regarded, especially the hot tub. However, there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as power cuts, a leaky sink, and a lack of logs for the fire, which affects the score.
There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the hosts. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.
A hot-tub hideaway for two on Wordsworth's home patch! Mary's Cottage is sublimely tucked away near the centre of pretty Grasmere village, the poetic and geographical heart of the Lakes. Fell views from every window, and fully refurbished by the present owners, this little Lakelovers gem also has a luxurious hot-tub in its magical, secluded courtyard garden – what a find for a couple wanting to get away from it all for a romantic break! With additional touches including a large open shower/wet room with a rain shower, an integrated Sonos sound system installed in the ceiling, granite worktops with a breakfast bar, and Vision blinds on all windows, Mary's Cottage makes a fantastic retreat.
Luxury cottages with hot-tubs in the Lake District don't come much cuter or more idyllically located than this, and Mary's Cottage provides a charmingly intimate space for two of our Lakelovers to enjoy special times together. High quality finishing throughout complements the classic cottage character, and you couldn't be more pleasantly situated away from the bustle, yet in strolling distance of Grasmere's centre.
Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family have been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century and Grasmere Lake, plus Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland Wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.

Accommodation was first class and the location in the village of Grasmere was even better, such a beautiful and intimate place, away from the thronging crowds and traffic. I will be returning for sure.

But there were several servicing issues that I would not expect in this price bracket. Freezer was so iced up we couldn't open the drawers, to defrost we had to turn off all the sockets as there is no isolator. Seriously bad mould issues in the shower room. Sink drain leaks and no basin provided. No logs supplied, description says there will be some. Dressing table drawer sticks, it is very narrow and the mirror isn't fixed, so very unstable. Front door only latches shut if slammed.

Near pub and shops but also in the countryside and near the lake. The property is well equipped and we had a nice relaxing break. Thank you.
