Applethwaite Cottage is a superb contemporary Lakeland Cottage set in the pretty conservation village of Troutbeck, 5 minutes’ drive from Windermere.
On entering the cottage, you are greeted by the large open plan living space with oak floors throughout and a lovely wood-burning stove. The kitchen is well equipped and offers all you may need. The cosy lounge area is spacious with a bay window offering panoramic view out across the Troutbeck Valley. Upstairs, the cosy king-size master bedroom is complete with open beams and a contemporary en-suite. The second bedroom offers a comfortable double bed and compliments the master bedroom. A modern family bathroom includes bath with overhead shower, basin and WC. Originally part of a larger Victorian property this cottage has been tastefully refurbished to a high standard. The cottage offers a spacious and social living space, with outstanding views down the fell, outdoor garden furniture and barbeque area.
Just a short drive from shops and restaurants in Windermere village, Lake Windermere itself and the vibrant lake shore communities of Bowness and Ambleside, the Troutbeck Valley is a peaceful haven away from the rush. Spectacular Lakeland fells surround this lush valley; scattered with historic Lakeland houses and pretty woodlands, and two great pubs: The Mortal Man, and the Queens Head, both renowned for their excellent food, Cumbrian produce and cosy fireside ambience. Perfect for a special occasion. There are many walks from your doorstep, or you could drive over Kirkstone Pass towards Ullswater, you'll pass Brothers Water - one of our favourite spots for a leisurely Sunday stroll. For exploring further afield, despite the blissfully secluded feel of the Troutbeck Valley, you're never too far from the main linking roads throughout the Lake District.
The small Lakeland village of Troutbeck can be found between its more famous neighbours Windermere and Ambleside, close by the Kirkstone Pass. A mixture of houses, cottages and farms, the village is scattered along a narrow lane bordered by a drystone wall. Many of these buildings date back to the 17th Century with features such as mullioned windows and heavy cylindrical chimneys and the northern end boasts its own 17th century inn. Close by, the bustling towns of Windermere and Ambleside are popular with visitors, providing a range of amenities to suit all tastes. Lake Windermere offers boat trips, including the lakeside ferry to the Lakeside Aquarium and Grizedale Forest Park. The ‘Windermere Steamboat Museum’ displays a fascinating collection of boats whilst children will enjoy the ‘World of Beatrix Potter’ in Bowness, where technology brings her characters to life. Within easy reach of destinations such as Coniston Water, Kendal, Keswick and the Lakeland Mountains, Troutbeck is ideally situated for exploring all that the region has to offer.
