Primrose Bank is a Grade II barn conversion, undergoing full renovation in 2021, situated in the quiet village of Sockbridge, easily accessible from the M6 and just 3 miles from Pooley Bridge and Ullswater, where you will find local shops, pubs and restaurants, plus access to the lake shore. It is ideal for a large family gathering or groups of walkers seeking to enjoy the splendour of the North Lakes. The pub in Tirril is within easy walking distance and provides a restaurant and small shop. A mile away in Yanwath is another pub/restaurant, renowned for its cuisine.
Activities available locally include pony trekking within Pooley Bridge and a variety of water sports on Ullswater, including sailing instruction, as well as some of the best fell walking in the Lake District National Park. Keswick is 20 miles away, with Windermere only 24 miles, meaning all major Lake District attractions and main walks are within 1-2 hours drive from the doorstep.

We had a lovely stay here and would definitely recommend it overall.The cottage was very easy to find and is in a perfect location – just five minutes from both Penrith and Pooley Bridge, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. It was very spacious for our group, the beds were incredibly comfortable, and the beautiful back garden was a lovely place to relax. The cottage was also exceptionally well equipped with everything you could possibly need during your stay.Being directly opposite the dairy farm was a real highlight for us, especially watching the tractors and farm activity throughout the day. We appreciated the authentic countryside setting, although it's worth noting that the regular tractor traffic may not be for everyone. There are also some lovely walks right from the doorstep, which was perfect for us.There were just a few areas that could be improved. The sofas in the living room are looking quite tired and could do with replacing. As you'd expect being next to a working farm, there were quite a few flies around, so anyone staying should be prepared for that. We also felt the cleanliness could have been better on arrival. There were a number of cobwebs, and we ended up running the hoover round ourselves on arrival. The shower area would also benefit from some mould treatment, and the shower heads could do with a thorough clean.Despite these minor things, we really enjoyed our stay. The location, comfort and space made it a fantastic base for our Lake District holiday, and we'd happily stay again.
