Spring Grove is ideally located at Watermillock, a stone’s throw from Ullswater’s shoreline in the Northern Lake District, privately accessed by its own drive and surrounded by 50 acres of woodland which covers a fell that overlooks Lake Ullswater. With fantastic walks, direct from Spring Grove, allowing you to leave your car behind or stay home to enjoy the garden space where wildlife is often seen, including roe deer, badger, fox, squirrels, buzzards, ravens and regular nesting ducks. Adjoining the discreet owners’ properties, you also have access to its own lake shore frontage just across the road, offering private fishing and the possibility of launching small craft such as a windsurfer, canoe or rubber dinghy. Windsurfing, rowing and motorboat hire, sailing, golf, pony trekking and steamer cruises are all available locally. The main shopping areas are in Penrith, 7 miles, and Pooley Bridge for local pubs and cafes is just 1½ miles away and with a restaurant within walking distance.

* The cottage was amazing, great location and very well presented. * Value for money, I didn’t realise it was half term and think the price was raised because of this.* cleanliness of the cottage was very good, I marked it down due to the number of dead and half dead wasps that we had to hoover/spray with insect killer which was provided, so the owners are aware of the problem, both on arrival and while we stayed we had to clean up the wasps. My partner also had a wasp sting while sleeping. This resulted in a badly bruised eye. Wasp problem needs sorting otherwise would have been a perfect five stars.

Superb cottage. Decor is undoubtedly a wee bit dated, but it's cozy and comfortable. The window seat is a nice addition for gazing over Ullswater. Very good location about a mile outside Pooley Bridge, so handy for corner shop etc. The kitchen is really well equipped! We had a lovely time and would return to this cottage if visiting the area again.

I have not given full marks only because we had a lot of wasps more dead than alive in the living room and dining/kitchen room but there was no note left in the cottage to let us know there was a problem only fly/wasp spray on table for our use but I knew before we went because I read the reviews and it mentioned they had a wasp nest I was hoping it was sorted..We stayed there for a week, but in the whole it didn’t spoil our time here, we have stayed a few times in the cottage. We still enjoyed our time in Watermillock, the property surrounding is stunning with seating area if you sit there first thing on the morning you might see cows, pheasants maybe a deer in the attached field to the property, plenty of things to do in the area, the weather was not too bad, the reviews did mention about the knives being blunt they were right. Just need to get new ones. So overall a good stay. We would definitely stay here again. Catherine, Sara&Adrian
