You’re in for a surprise when you board the rocking lodge. On the face of it, a beautifully designed and compact lodge, but, at the flick of a switch, the whole lodge smoothly and gently rocks back and forth. You’ve got to try it to believe it!
On the lower slopes of Blencathra, famous for having six separate fell tops and one of the most imposing views in The Lake District National Park, this unique lodge is a great choice for your next Cumbrian adventure. Situated on a working beef and sheep farm this purpose built lodge was designed with couples in mind. With private parking and a lovely outside seating area you can soak up the sun while enjoying the impressive views of this iconic mountain.
The open plan lodge is compact but expertly designed to deliver everything you’ll need for a memorable stay. It is well-equipped and features a modern kitchenette. On offer is a comfortable sofa, perfect for snuggling in front of the flat screen TV, double bed and just off the living area is a small but modern bathroom. You’ll love the cosy feel of this lodge, perfect if you’re looking for a romantic getaway.
The villages of Scales and Threlkeld are just over a mile away and offer three great pubs serving food and local cask ales. Directly opposite is Keswick Golf Club and 5 miles away is the popular market town of Keswick, bustling with bars, restaurants and great shopping as well as lots of tourist attractions including The Theatre By The Lake offering award winning arts and drama in an enviable position on the shores of Derwent water. Visit the Derwent Pencil museum, home to the world’s largest pencil or if you fancy something slightly different, check out Puzzling Place, a museum full of mind bending optical illusions.
Cyclists, walkers and climbers will love the freedom of the iconic Lakeland Fells nearby. The area has many walking routes taking in much of the picturesque scenery. However, if you’re looking for a bigger challenge, Keswick and Derwent Water is a great starting point for many of Wainwright’s 214 Lakeland Fells including Latrigg and Catbells. Shop 4½ miles, pub ¾ mile and restaurant 1¼ miles.

The Swinging Lodge (which doesn’t swing) is in a great location for walking. The lodge itself was clean and well presented. Only a small window inside though, so you can’t see the views unless you have the door open. Couldn't work out how to use the microwave oven and no instructions. The garden didn’t look like the photos advertised. Garden seating was broken and aged. All a bit unkept.

Accommodation as expected and described.Garden equipment in need of some care. One plastic chair was broken and the swing seat in the listing had no back and was dangerous (wood was rotten).Bed is sloping and very noisy.We couldn’t find out how to make the Rocking Lodge ‘rock’ as described in the listing. No instructions which was a real shame.We saw nobody. Would’ve been nice for the owner to check everything was ok. We messaged the owner (about how to make the lodge rock) using the number in the info but had no response. Good job it wasn’t an emergency. Very disappointed with the communication both in the accommodation, from the owner and when we made contact via text. There was no information file in the accommodation.Don’t think we’d go back and wouldn’t want to stay for more than 2-3 nights.The White Horse pub was perfect. We walked (0.8 miles each way). We booked a table and it was quite busy on a Saturday night.We walked several Wainwrights over our two days. Beautiful area.

A magnificent location for fell walkers and close enough to good pubs as a useful bonus. It's compact but well equipped once you sense the clever design layout. A few minutes of maintenance is needed: the shower needs a washer replacing to improve the still decent pressure and two overhead bulbs were blown. I liked the bed but it might be a bit short for very tall people. In general, I was impressed and had a superb break in the Rocking Lodge
