Set in the heart of Pooley Bridge, on the north-eastern edge of Ullswater, the cottage is ideally placed for exploring one of the Lake District’s most beautiful and accessible areas. The River Eamont meets Ullswater just moments away, and nearby Dunmallard Hill, once an Iron Age fort, adds a sense of history to the landscape. Everything you need is on your doorstep, with three welcoming pubs serving excellent food, cosy tearooms, and local shops offering fresh produce, outdoor gear, and souvenirs.
From the village pier, the famous Ullswater Steamers depart for cruises along the seven-mile lake to Howtown and Glenridding. The surrounding area offers unforgettable walks, from gentle riverside and woodland strolls to more adventurous routes across the High Street and Helvellyn ranges. Don’t miss Aira Force, a spectacular waterfall about halfway along the lake.

We had a lovely week staying at Windy Nook. The location was excellent for local walks or traveling further afield for more challenging walks, we also had the benefit of being able to walk to the jetty to catch a boat down the lake. The cottage was also located by three pubs serving food and a shop selling everything you may need for your stay including delicious ice creams. The television wasn’t working on our arrival however after a telephone call the next day the problem was resolved. Our only comment would be that Windy Nook would benefit from more china and cutlery which is easily rectified.
