Set in the heart of Pooley Bridge, on the north-eastern edge of Ullswater, the cottage is ideally placed for exploring one of the Lake District’s most beautiful and accessible areas. The River Eamont meets Ullswater just moments away, and nearby Dunmallard Hill, once an Iron Age fort, adds a sense of history to the landscape. Everything you need is on your doorstep, with three welcoming pubs serving excellent food, cosy tearooms, and local shops offering fresh produce, outdoor gear, and souvenirs.
From the village pier, the famous Ullswater Steamers depart for cruises along the seven-mile lake to Howtown and Glenridding. The surrounding area offers unforgettable walks, from gentle riverside and woodland strolls to more adventurous routes across the High Street and Helvellyn ranges. Don’t miss Aira Force, a spectacular waterfall about halfway along the lake.

Windy Nook was the perfect base for our holiday with friends and 2 dogs. The cottage is cosy and contained everything we needed for our stay. Pooley Bridge is a buzzing little town with great local amenities, and a short walk from Ullswater. We were able to park one car locally for free and the other in the £4 per day car park round the corner, and swapped them over as needed. I would be happy to stay here again if ever we return to Pooley Bridge.

Wonderful, comfortable cottage. Great location for walking. Couple of hiccups when we were there, however, dealt with promptly.

Lovely cottage in an amazing location. Forget Windermere; Ullswater beats it hands down. The cottage is great and has everything needed. The only thing I would say is be mindful that there is no parking and you may end up paying £9 for each 24hrs. Car park is close so wasn’t an issue, but factor it in. The other thing is there’s no garden at all. Again, not a huge issue but would be nice to be able to sit out with a beer without paying pub prices! We had a fantastic week and would definitely come back despite the lack of a garden / parking. A truly fabulous week.
