Guests say

Townhead Farmhouse is a charming, rustic property praised for its stunning location in Cumbria, ideal for nature lovers and walkers. Guests enjoy the spacious rooms, cosy atmosphere, and the proximity to the lake and hills. The outdoor areas are appreciated for relaxation amidst beautiful scenery.

The farmhouse generally maintains good cleanliness, though some guests noted areas needing more thorough cleaning, such as dust on skirting boards and issues with a fridge upon arrival. These seem to be isolated incidents rather than the norm.

The location is highly praised for its peace, quiet, and natural beauty, with easy access to walks and the lake. The remote setting is ideal for a tranquil retreat, though the narrow access roads may challenge some.

Most guests find the farmhouse comfortable and cosy, with warm rooms and comfortable beds. However, some noted the decor as tired and in need of TLC, and there were comments about thin walls and a pervasive damp smell from a leak.

The property is well-equipped for self-catering and stays warm. Some guests experienced issues with heating controls and the TV, and there were mentions of minor maintenance needs. The kitchen's AGA-style cooker received mixed feedback.

While some guests mentioned a welcome pack and biscuits, there is insufficient information to assess the consistency of thoughtful gestures or gifts. Therefore, it cannot be guaranteed that such amenities will be provided.

About this property

A semi-detached, stone, character cottage with barn in the hamlet of Sandwick. This spacious property is close to the lake and is perfect for walkers, wildlife enthusiasts and those seeking peace and tranquillity. There's two dining areas at this cottage with beams and cast iron radiators, and one even has the bonus of a large woodburner. Also on the ground floor is a lovely sitting room with open woodburner, and this cottage is in a glorious location with garden, and many walks from the doorstep. Note: This cottage is next to Ref. 927735, together they sleep 8.

The picturesque village of Pooley Bridge sits on the northerly edge of Lake Ullswater in the Lake District National Park. The name Pooley came to be due to the forming of a large pool, which was left by the fast flowing River Eamont, and the word Bridge was later added when a bridge, which is now 250 years old, was built over the river. Pooley Bridge has many traditional inns and tempting tea rooms, plus the Ullswater Steamers depart from the village, from where a tranquil cruise down the lake to the villages of Glenridding and Howtown can be enjoyed.

Read, walked, recharged. Farmhouse was cosy, really well equipped, lots of character and stunning walks from the door. Would love to know the history of the building. Relaxed in front of log burner with the perfect book English Pastoral by James Rebanks bought at Verey Books - The Ullswater bookshop for curious minds (great name) in Pooley Bridge.

Everything important was well provided for, lovely, fluffy towels, comfortable beds, warmth, pots and pans, great pictures on the walls, a drying room, and more. It is a wonderful base to start walks out from of which there are plenty and close to a beach on Ullswater. A super location.

Sandwick is a fantastic location for walking, with the Ullswater Steamers providing a regular service from Howtown.
