About this property

Bishop Auckland 3.8 miles. 2 Low Road is a beautiful, character cottage with stone-built features, settled into a scenic location close to the bustling town of Bishop Auckland. With a local pub, countryside views, and the added indulgence of a bubbling hot tub, this is an ideal base for couples or friends looking to visit the wonders of Durham. Make yourself at home in this wonderful abode, noticing the exposed stonework throughout as you settle into the sitting area. Here there is a Smart TV for movie nights and a multi-fuel stove adding crackling ambiance as you rest in the stylish furniture.

Off to the side of this space there is a snug, benefiting from bright countryside views. Cook breakfast in the contemporary kitchen, enjoying your meal alfresco, making the most of the decking and the fresh air, and from here, why not spend an evening beneath the stars, taking an opulent soak in the hot tub? This pretty cottage sports two well-presented bedrooms, as well as a refreshing ground-floor shower room, with one king-size on the first floor, and the second bedroom, a plush king-size zip/link that can be set up as a twin on request, rests on the lower-ground-floor. Just paces from this property you will find a hearty pub, ideal for meals out.

Bishop Auckland offers shops and cafes, as well as attractions including Auckland Castle, Tittybottle Park, Auckland Palace, a golf course, and walks at The Batts. Further afield visit the North Pennines National Landscape, or head over to the lovely city of Durham, where there are botanical gardens, quaint shops, and museums. There is plenty to be explored with a stay at the lovely 2 Low Road.

Bishop Auckland is a busy market town, 11 miles to the south of Durham and is home to the Gothic palace of Auckland Castle and deer park, a 900 year old medieval hunting lodge and grounds, once home to the Prince Bishop’s of England. Bishop Auckland offers a thriving arts and cultural scene with a cinema, theatre and arts complex. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the town centre and an abundance of shops to peruse. On the outskirts of the town you can discover the secrets of the largest Roman Fort in the county at Binchester or perhaps book a night at Kynren, a spectacular night show depicting the history of England, seen through the eyes of Arthur, a 10 year old boy from the North East, (opening July 2016) and marvel at the pyrotechnics, stunning lighting and water effects. There is a scenic railway line which runs from Bishop Auckland to Stanhope. It was purchased quite recently by Jonathan Ruffer the man behind the Auckland Project and instrumental in bringing Kynren to Bishop Auckland. The city of Durham is just a short drive north with an array of shops, pubs and restaurants, and a little further will take you to the Roman town of Chester-le-Street or Beamish Museum. A little further afield you can discover the Durham Dales, Newcastle upon Tyne, Hadrian's Wall, the Heritage Coast, Cragside at Rothbury and the North York Moors; there’s something for everyone.
