The location is appreciated for its tranquillity and proximity to walks and nature reserves, though it is noted as being quite remote and requiring a car for access to shops.

Guests find the cottage to be a comfortable place to return to after a day of activities, suggesting a high level of comfort.

The cottage is well-equipped, with an excellent kitchen setup. However, the mention of lacking basic condiments suggests room for improvement in the facilities and maintenance category.

We had a great holiday at Engineman's Cottage. It is very quiet, being quite remote and up a narrow bumpy track, so you do need a car to get to shops etc in Bishop Auckland. The cottage is very dog-friendly and there are loads of great walks straight from the door, including down to the Low Barns nature reserve, which is excellent if you like birds. There is also a nice walk down the side of the railway tracks (not shown on OS maps, oddly) to the Victoria pub in Witton le Wear.

We had a lovely stay in Enginemans Cottage, a great location for exploring the North East area and lovely walks from the door. A lovely place to come back to and relax after a busy day walking. One small thing some basic condiments like salt, pepper and cooking oil would have been helpful.
