John Wesley Cottage receives high praise for its comfort, cleanliness, and well-equipped facilities. Nestled in beautiful countryside, it's conveniently located for visiting Durham, Newcastle, and Beamish. Guests appreciate the spaciousness, modern amenities, and the warm welcome from the host. While the single bathroom and firm beds are noted, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as spotlessly clean, with several reviews highlighting the cleanliness of the accommodation. The property is well-maintained, contributing to the high score in this category.
The cottage is praised for its quiet and private location, offering beautiful countryside views while still being close to local attractions like Beamish and Durham. Its easy driving distance to various sites contributes to a high score.
The majority of guests find the cottage comfortable, with cosy heating and a relaxing atmosphere. However, a few guests mention that the beds could be more comfortable, which slightly lowers the score.
The property is well-equipped with a large kitchen, reliable internet, and ample living space. Some guests mention the need for an additional toilet and minor issues with mattresses and radiators, but overall, the facilities are highly regarded.
While guests express appreciation for the host's responsiveness and the overall standard of the accommodation, there are no specific mentions of gifts or extra thoughtful touches that would warrant a score in this category.

Ideal walking and fishing country, yet close to famous attractions - visitors can step back in time at the Beamish Open Air Museum or visit the Metro Centre (a shopper’s paradise), Hexham (with its glorious abbey), Durham City (a city of contrasts, with its fine cathedral and designer shops), or the Northumberland coast, which are all within an hour’s drive. had a lovely few days exploring around County Durham and into Northumbria - this location was a perfect spot for us.We were really impressed on walking into the cottage - excellent standards all round even down to very tasteful Christmas decorations. The owners were all friendly and extremely welcoming. We wanted for nothing - it was great! Thank you.

John Wesley Cottage was the perfect cottage for our few days away to the North East. Really comfortable, warm, cozy and relaxing situated in beautiful countryside but still within easy driving distance to everything.I’d say if you want to get away and feel like you’re somewhere remote in the middle of the countryside but still be able to see and do things easily in the local area like Durham, Newcastle, Beamish etc. then this is the perfect spot. The cottage had everything you’d need, a large well equipped kitchen, lovely bathroom and super comfortable bedrooms and living area.Great host who was really friendly, met us when we arrived and replied to my messages pre arrival very quickly but once we were there we were left to it which was absolutely perfect.Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again!

Perfect accommodation. Everything was spotlesly clean and comfortable (bedding and towels smelled amazing and fresh!) We stayed for 5 nights as our mam was in the queen Elizabeth hospital in Gateshead so was a perfect base for us to get back and forward to see her. Already planning to come back and bring her with us so we can do some shopping when shes fit again! Thanks
