Newonstead Bothy is the ideal relaxing hideaway for a well-deserved holiday or short break, where you can completely switch off and unwind. With lovely light and airy rooms and far-reaching country views, this semi-detached barn conversion is a wonderful place to stay in. On cool evenings you have the marvellous wood burner to curl up in front of.
Set on the owner’s upland hill farm, and slightly off the beaten track, it’s idyllic for couples wishing to cycle and walk, with or without a dog. Whilst the location is set in the countryside, you really only are a couple of miles from the main road network so exploring this beautiful county is easy from Newonstead Bothy. The well-equipped kitchen has seating for four, just in case you want to invite friends over, and there is a fabulous large wall map of the county so you can plan all your day trips. On entering to the property, there is a large porch for storing all your outdoor equipment and outside is a storage area for bicycles. The owners provide a welcome tea tray and have added maps which shows which fields and walks you can have access too. In spring the owners are happy to show you the lambs and answer any of your questions.
The wonderful National Trust Property of Wallington Hall and Gardens is only 5 miles away. Matfen Hall, Spa and Golf Centre is only 10 miles, and you can drive down to Corbridge in 20 minutes. This is a lovely old Roman town with plenty of lovely pubs and cafés. The pick-your-own fruit farm and café is only half an hour for you to enjoy in summer. You really can travel all over the county from Newonstead Bothy, then come home and relax in this lovely location.

We had a lovely time here. It was the ideal location for getting away from the world, set in a rural farm. The host Alex ( who is lovely ) lives in the farmhouse at the end of the road with her family but you are very much left to yourself ( which we liked) and whilst the welcome pack of instructions is quite light, it was refreshing to stay at somewhere that wasn't full of negative signs and notices telling you what you can or couldn't do as I have seen elsewhere and you are instead treated as an adult to leave the place as you found it. The three key things that they get right in this cottage are they have a comfy bed, a comfy sofa ( so often in rentals people scrimp on a low back sofa) and a lovely warm , powerful shower. You are very remote ( about 20 minutes in the car to the nearest shop), so bring your shopping with you but the scenery is wonderful and it's a perfect location to visit places of interest in the area. The log burner was a treat and made the cottage very cosy and it is very dog friendly with fields nearby to walk in. The cooking facilities are fine ( an extra tray in the oven would have been useful) and overall you felt so relaxed that you forgot at times you were in a rental as the vibe was more like you were staying with friends. I would thoroughly recommend it

Well equipped converted barn in a lovely rural location. Very dog friendly with access to walks on the farm. Felt private and yet close to the owners farm. Would recommend.

Delighted. Lovely rural location but with a lovely coffee spot nearby and less than 20 miles to local towns/ Hadrian's wall. Great space for a couple looking to rest up and a really lovely friendly welcome.
