Guests say

This spacious cottage in North Shields is praised for its excellent location, being just a short walk from the seafront, shops, and eateries, and offering ample parking. Guests appreciate the size of the property and the responsiveness of the owner. However, several reviews highlight issues with cleanliness, maintenance, and the standard of facilities, including recurring problems with the shower, kitchen, and general upkeep. While some guests enjoyed their stay due to the location and space, others were disappointed by the property's condition and lack of attention to detail.

Multiple guests reported issues such as black mould, musty smells, dirty kitchen cupboards, and a general lack of cleanliness throughout the property. Some mentioned the need for a deep clean and pest control.

The location is consistently praised as a major highlight, with guests noting its proximity to the beach, village centre, shops, and restaurants, as well as being in a quiet residential area with off-road parking.

While some guests found the house spacious and the living areas comfortable, others experienced discomfort due to broken furniture, uncomfortable mattresses, and maintenance issues affecting their stay.

There are repeated concerns about poor maintenance, broken appliances, insufficient kitchen equipment, and ongoing issues with the shower and kitchen plumbing. Some guests also noted misleading information about amenities.

There are no mentions of welcome gifts or special thoughtful touches in the reviews, so a score cannot be provided for this category.

Unfortunately, ours is a negative perspective- The house was completely infested with moths, and we had to wash all our clothing once we arrived home, even things we hadn’t worn. We had to buy insect spray to try to stop them flying around at night. Insufficient crockery, grubby and damaged pans, odd glasses, reminding us of charity shop oddments. False economy really as the dishwasher had to be used twice a day despite there only being two of us. We had to cut bread with a steak knife as it was the only sharp knife in the house for example. Electric tripped out once and the boiler pressure twice. (We left after five days of a planned week). In summary, the house requires a comprehensive deep-clean, pest control, some basic maintenance improvements and equipment review and renewal. We were in the holiday let business ourselves and would never have let the property in this state.

This is a very spacious house, only 5mins walk from the sea and shops so ideally placed for a holiday. It’s in a lovely quiet residential neighbourhood with off-road parking for two cars. My husband, two adult daughters and a dog thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The owner was easily contactable and helped us with a query we had. We would definitely go back there again.

On arrival we were met by a representative who passed the key and showed us around the property internally.First issue was the warning about the shower tray which leaked despite our best efforts the water ran through the ceiling down into the kitchen and onto electric sockets. The shower screen was broken and door did not stay on rails it was so stiff it could not be opened. We did not use the shower for our stay which was inconvenient to say the least. The sink in the kitchen leaked and we were asked to empty a cup under the sinks, the overflow was not connected and leaked directly onto the floor under the sinks. There was not enough kitchen utensils for the amount of guests advertised .Old food in cupboards, no tea towels we bought some. Insufficient toilet roll. The sofa was so broken it collapsed when. Sat on and had the potential to injure someone.Lovely house perfect location however lacking in attention to details and fundamental maintenance
