About this property

Courtyard Cottage is a charming, end-of-terrace cottage tucked away on a residential estate on the outskirts of Alnwick, Northumberland. Just a short distance from the amenities of Alnwick, including shops, pubs and restaurants, whilst being only four miles to the coastline, Courtyard Cottage is a great base for families looking to escape normality and spend some time in Northumberland. Cross the threshold into your home-from-home and discover the traditional interior that will welcome you after a day of exploring. Step into the kitchen/diner, perfect for rustling up tasty meals that can be enjoyed over conversation with loved ones. Move through to the sitting room, where you can relax on the sofas and catch up on your favourite shows on the Smart TV and electric fire; the perfect place to gather for a movie night.

As the night draws in, make your way upstairs, where you will find three bedrooms, a king-size, a single with en-suite shower and a single. Outdoors, enjoy the fresh air from the comfort of the garden; there’s also roadside parking available. The historic town of Alnwick is famed for its medieval architecture, enchanting gardens, and a palpable sense of history. Visit Alnwick Castle, with its imposing towers and impressive stone walls, this majestic fortress has stood the test of time, whilst beyond the castle lies Alnwick's cobbled streets, lined with a mix of historic buildings, charming shops, pubs and quaint tearooms.

The nearby Alnwick Moor and Hulne Park provide opportunities for scenic walks, while the Northumberland Coast, designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, is a short drive away; the coastline is dotted with picturesque villages and pristine beaches, providing a refreshing contrast to the town's historic charm. Back at Courtyard Cottage, ease into the evening and reminisce on your new memories made.

The attractive and historic market town of Alnwick is dominated by Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland. The Castle Gardens, opened in 2002, are home to Europe's largest cascading water feature, a fabulous (and enormous) treehouse, a delightful rose garden and a beautiful, walled ornamental garden, which will delight novice and experienced gardeners alike; for even more excitement, the enchanted world of Lilidorei is also available at Alnwick Gardens, offering seasonal events and plenty of fun for little ones of your group. The castle is also famous as the setting for Hogwarts School featured in the Harry Potter films! The town's narrow streets have seen little change since the days when the London to Edinburgh stage coach passed through and the Market Place, with its stone cross, is still the central feature and the ideal venue for the weekly Saturday market. Alnwick offers a good selection of shops, pubs and places to eat and there is plenty to see and do, with miles of golden sandy beaches, numerous castles and boat trips to the famous Farne Islands all available nearby. Altogether a superb location for exploring Northumberland and its stunning Heritage Coastline.

The inside of kitchen cupboards and crockery/cutlery/equipment could do with a good clean. Some kitchen equipment could do with replacing - peeling oven trays and rusty pan. More cooking equipment would be helpful. The main oven didn't work. We managed with the small top oven though. The outside light wasn't working. A torch is required as its very dark in the courtyard at night. The outside space could be beautiful but currently isn't somewhere you would want to sit out in. The living room is lovely and comfortable and the property warm and cozy. Upstairs would benefit from some type of window coverings on the landing and ensuite bathroom in particular. The mattress on the double bed is very soft so might not suit everyone. The duvets are very thin but as the heating is very effective it wasn't a problem. Its worth pointing out the stairs are very steep. This wasn't a problem for us but might be for some. Despite some criticisms, we loved the house and as I said, it could be amazing with a few small tweaks. Upstairs well-equipped with plenty of toilet rolls, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Easy parking outside. Good location. We would stay again

Nice quiet location but with a pleasant walk or easy drive into Alnwick. We had a really lovely holiday.

It meant we could base ourselves here for a walking holiday and use public transport and still walk to a range of pubs or restaurants, supermarkets and all that lovely Alnwick has to offer. It's a perfect location for the area. The owner was friendly, helpful and responsive to a few problems we encountered. However, a few changes are needed for the cottage to fulfill it's potential and I write this feedback as an honest critique to someone starting out in the holiday let business. The outside area could be fabulous, but is currently an unwelcoming weed-filled space and not a good first impression. The kitchen/dining area is good but there is simply not enough cutlery for 4 people (3 knives) and other kitchen equipment was only just adequate and the minimum when we did want to cook a meal. Eg, No corkscrew. No pan lids. The cottage is clean but not thoroughly cleaned. The lounge side tables are bouncy rattan-topped so we couldn't safely put down a cup or wine glass. The main bedroom is great but the 2 smaller bedrooms are very minimally furnished. Bedside reading lamps would be a good addition. The main bathroom door is half glass with full view of the toilet and bath, and there are no curtains in the bathroom or ensuite windows. These are ok if you're holidaying with close friends and family but not so relaxing if you like privacy. The bathroom door needs obscure glass or a blind fitting. This cottage could be fantastic and I hope the owner accepts feedback in good faith and makes the necessary changes so that it is more comfortable for future visitors.
