A visit to Barter Books, the second hand bookshop in the former station building which has open fires, interactive mural, model railway and café is highly recommended.

Sailing enthusiasts have availability to a yacht and small boat moorings within the sheltered estuary. Golfers will delight in the two courses close by; one being a fine 9-hole course adjacent to the beach and the other being a challenging 18-hole course at Foxton, which enjoys panoramic views. We stayed at Glebelands Lodge for a week. The property is amazing, well presented, extremely clean and had everything you need for a wonderful stay. The location is excellent and is a short walk into the centre of Alnwick. The only reason I haven’t rated it 5* was the fact that the beds were not very good. The bed bases do not support a pocket sprung mattress, the gaps between the slats are too big. Also the mattress was well past its best. No support whatsoever, when turning over could hear the springs twanging. They had put a mattress topper on which I suspect was to try and make the mattress feel better but it did not work. We sadly decided to leave after 4 nights as my wife had neck pain and could not bare to have another poor nights sleep. Unfortunately the sofa is not very supportive either. Looks fine but you do sink down a bit too fair. Again the springs in the sofa seem to have see better days. Other reviews have mentioned the beds are soft but in my opinion the mattresses are not soft, they have little to no support which is different. It is such a shame as everything else was perfect. The showers are amazing. I feel that to advertise the property as luxury the beds should have been a lot better.
