Originally built in the 1700s, this detached barn has been thoughtfully restored to a high standard, retaining much of its historical charm while incorporating stylish, modern comforts. The striking roof is crafted from the same weathered steel used on the Angel of the North, giving the property a unique character.
Inside, bi-fold doors lead you into a bright, open-plan living space where a well-equipped kitchen, dining area, and cosy lounge come together beneath high ceilings. A woodburner and even a disco ball brings warmth and a touch of fun to your evenings. The king-sized bedroom features original beams and leads to a luxurious en-suite bathroom with a triple shower. Outside, you’ll find a charming seating area at the front, while to the rear, a few steps take you to a private sun trap, the perfect spot for a morning coffee or sunset drink. Guests also have direct access to riverside and woodland walks via the grounds. One dog is welcome, though due to nearby livestock, they must be kept on a lead.
Located next to the elegant Slaley Hall, Quarry Barn is ideal for those attending weddings or enjoying a round of golf at the championship course. The renowned Derwent Reservoir is just a short drive away, offering opportunities for scenic walks, birdwatching, sailing, and paddleboarding. A beautifully equipped and comfortable warm and cosy home for a week. Very private and a little off the beaten track, and a car is necessary. Hosts were very lovely and helpful and we only saw them if we needed to. They have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into making the place as it is. I would highly recommend.

Perfect StayWe have just spent an idyllic week in this part of heavenly Northumberland. Quarry Barn was a delight to return to each day. You know you have truly left the rat race behind when your daily 'welcome home' party is a herd of inquisitive cows, pheasants poking their heads up from the surrounding grasses and visiting birds of every kind. The owners have created a lovely space here for guests. The barn has a cheerful, comfortable and interesting decor, was spotlessly clean, smelt beautiful and had absolutely everything we needed to cater for ourselves, when required. The owners even left the most beautiful welcome basket of tasty treats. We spent our days leisurely exploring the bucolic and far-reaching landscapes, historic towns and good, local restaurants before returning to the peace and silence of Quarry Barn. Simon and Vicky were fantastic, helpful and kind, and nothing was ever too much trouble. We could not have wished for more from our week away. Thank you.
