Originally built in the 1850’s, this charming property now offers a cosy retreat for couples within walking distance of the facilities within the picturesque village of Ovington set within the Tyne Valley. Ovington is situated just over a mile from Prudhoe, where there is a Riverside Country Park on the banks of the river Tyne close by. Prudhoe sits equidistant between Hexham to the west and Gateshead to the east; both being 13 miles.

A free untethered 7.5Kw Electric Vehicle Charging point (Type 2) is now available to use adjacent to the owners house, next door to the cottage, however the Electric vehicle will need to be moved back to the bottom of the lane after charging - please feel free to contact the owner to enquire about its use prior to your visit.

We stayed during a very cold week between Christmas and New Year and the cottage couldn't have been more cosy, comfortable and welcoming. We arrived to find delicious cake, mince pies and prosecco awaiting us. The cottage was very well-appointed and decorated. There were such beautiful places to visit and we found many dog-friendly pubs. We had a lovely time and wouldn't hesitate to make a return visit.

We unfortunately had to leave the Smithy early in our break due to family emergency. However, the place is lovely, very cosy and well equipped. The hosts Phil & Kate were so welcoming and helped us out when our niece surprised us ! The only downside to the Smithy to be honest is the squeakiness of the road up to the cottage and the need to park away from the cottage - this is clearly mentioned on the website - if you are a nervous car driver it is very tight, all my car beepers were going off !! But you are forewarned in fairness.
