About this property

Tucked away in the historic market town of Wooer is this splendid holiday home, Humbleton. A quiet hotel retreat, serving quality traditional food, fine ales and a warm welcome sits just a stones throw away from the property. Set over two floors, this contemporary dwelling offers a wonderful base for families to come together and explore Northumberland. After finding the off-road parking space, unload your baggage and head into the open-plan living space, appointed with all the mod cons for a short break. Nestled into the sofa and tune into some television whilst you reflect on the days events, or get acquainted in the kitchen and utilise a range of contemporary appliances, whipping up a feast for all to enjoy. Off the kitchen is the family bathroom where you can round off the evening with a deep soak before getting into bed. The bedrooms are positioned upstairs and comprise of a king-size and twin, each neatly presented and offering good storage space for your personal things. Take yourself outside to the shared garden where you can sip on your morning coffee before strolling into the village centre, home to two supermarkets where you can pick up any essentials. Stop off for a coffee at a local café, or why not treat the group to a meal at one of the fine eateries, including a handful of pubs, restaurants and bars. Venture to the town of Berwick-upon-Tweed, where you can visit Andy Howeys Birds of Prey Centre and tour the stunning gardens of Paxton House, while history enthusiasts will be delighted by a visit to Berwick Upon Tweed Castle. A little further afield lies the market town of Alnwick, where you can stop off to explore the medieval Alnwick Castle and its landscaped gardens, or if you fancy a day by the coast, the village of Alnmouth gives access to its golden beach where you can catch a tan on the sands or enjoy a relaxing swim in the shallow waters. To the east is the wonderful coastline of Northumberland, regarded as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it offers blazing sunsets, hidden bays, and a number of historical landmarks such as Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. However you choose to spend your holiday time, the charm and comfort of Humbleton will be awaiting your return.

Wooler is a charming, historic market town on the banks of the Till River, one of the Tweed's tributaries, nestled in the foothills of the Cheviots, which form part of the Pennine Way. Wooler, known locally as 'The Gateway to The Cheviots,' boasts a variety of hotels and restaurants and is a fantastic base for visiting Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Wooler is located on the outskirts of the Northumberland National Park, just a short drive from the historic town of Alnwick with its famed Castle and Gardens, as well as the well-preserved Garrison town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. Chillingham Castle, with its ancient herd of wild white cattle, and Coldstream, close across the Scottish border, are both within a short drive.

This was arranged when my original booking in Melrose fell through due to the flooding of the National Trust property. This cottage in Wooler proved to be a very good alternative, arranged just before Christmas when the original booking was cancelled. Two very helpful ladies at Sykes assisted me in finding this alternative. It is right next to The Tankerville Arms and owned by the same people. I stayed with my family in The Tankerville Arms (booked directly) and Elaine, Paddy, and their team were very friendly. It made for a good Christmas as we were able to get together in the Inn. We will return I am sure and my sister will book the cottage again.

Great with little kids (washing machine very handy, tv in de kids room so parents could get a lie in, little play area in the pub garden behind the cottages). The pub is also lovely and serves great food! And everyone is so nice and helpful, will definitely recommend!

The cottage is situated a short drive away from the stunning Northumberland coastline, making it an ideal location to explore the rich history of Northumberland. We will be back and highly recommend to anyone wishing to visit Northumberland.
