About this property

Settled into the coastal town of South Shields, Tyne and Wear, Sea View Cottage is a lovely family holiday home resting close to the beach. The property has panoramic sea views from the front lounge and master bedroom where guests can watch ships and ferries sail from the mouth of the Tyne to Holland. Relax on the front garden terrace with a morning coffee to look across the Tyne to Tynemouth Priory and St Mary's Lighthouse. Unpack with ease from a rear parking spot, take a moment to relax in the living/dining area with a good book, before meal times call, and you make the most of the ample amenities in the grey-tiled kitchen. Two bedrooms await your relaxation, both with storage and views across the town and coastal landscape, so freshen up in the bathroom and choose between a king-size and a twin. Indulge in an outdoor breakfast in either the front or rear enclosed garden with your four-legged companion by your side. South Shields is a lovely seaside town with loads of amenities and attractions, and is known for its sandy beaches, history and abundance of tasty curry houses. Head into town to stock up on essentials, or enjoy a heart-warming meal out at one of the local eateries, for example Marsden Grotto and Deli 6 Lounge, and you can enjoy a glass of your favourite beverage at The Ship Inn or tea and cake at the Hilltop Cafe. As well as many great eateries, the town has its own golf course, dog park, nature reserve and fantastic sandy beaches such as Marsden and Sandhaven beaches, between which you will find scenic coastal walks, the historic South Shields Roman Fort and Ocean Beach Pleasure Park. Further from the property you can find more beaches ideal for watersports at North Shields, Hylton Castle, the incredible amphitheatre at Herrington Country Park and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. There is simply so much to do with a stay at the coastal Sea View Cottage.

The seaside town of South Shields is located near the Tyne River's mouth, a few miles downstream of Newcastle upon Tyne. South Shields, historically part of County Durham,  was known for its shipbuilding, which was replaced in the 19th century by heavy industries including coal mining and glass production. It is now a vibrant coastal community with a stunning Blue Flag beach that draws both tourists and locals all year round. The town is home to a number of attractions, such as the South Shields Museum, where visitors can learn about the local history, the Ocean Beach Pleasure Park, perfect for a day out with the family, and the famous Souter Lighthouse, where you can ascend the 76 steps for breathtaking views. Together with two wonderful parks, the South Marine and North Marine Park, which are ideal for an afternoon stroll, there are also lots of options for scenic walks along the coastline over breathtaking cliffs and rocky coves. In less than 30 minutes, you can travel to Newcastle, where you can peruse busy high streets lined with a wide range of shops and restaurants, learn about the city's rich history and traditions, and cross seven recognisable bridges.

Spotlessly clean, and well equipped ... perhaps expected these days but a spritzer in the rear garden 'sun trap' and its attractively designed front garden raises it a step above the usual. Easy access to cliffs and beaches, to Sunderland for the National Glass Centre and Metro for exploring over the river makes it a great base. For fish lovers, scallops purchased from Latimers were very poor quality, Fish Quay in Tynemouth did not disappoint.

The welcome pack was a lovely touch when we arrived. On opening the door, the sea view was stunning and stayed with us throughout the holiday. Main bedroom has the same view so it was lovely to wake up to that beautiful view. Inside, the decor sets the holiday mood, bright colours and lovely seascape pictures. Feels like a home, rather than a holiday rental. Everything you could want in the kitchen, and private garden to the front and back. Also the private parking helped a lot, as we had travelled from Scotland. Lovely host, Jenny. So helpful with places to eat and transport to both South Shields and Sunderland. Also, just along the coast is a fantastic beach at Seaburn, which has a Morrisons and great eating places. Great holiday all round
