About this property

This beautiful, end-terrace stone barn conversion is surrounded by countryside, located in the hamlet of Sedgwick near the historic town of Kendal. The barn conversion is spacious and filled with light and modern touches, such as a Juliet balcony and French doors from the lounge, yet still retaining its character and charm with beams, oak doors and sloping ceilings. The barn is set out over three floors, the second of which has a large bedroom and en-suite bathroom with views from the window. The lounge can either be open plan with the dining room, or closed off to create a cosy space when the woodburner-style gas fire is on, and comes with a three-seater and two-seater sofa, along with two armchairs.

Step through the French doors onto the terraced front garden, which has a patio and a built-in seating area. The lawn is very private and next to open countryside, making it the perfect place for the kids to play while you sit with a relaxing drink in the sunshine. Close by is Sizergh Castle, with its fantastic interior and beautiful gardens set in rolling parkland. Low Sizergh Barn and Farm Shop is also within easy reach, as is the Strickland Arms pub. Also nearby is Levens Hall and its world-class topiary and gardens, said to be haunted by the infamous grey lady.

Kendal is a short drive away, with stunning views across to the Lakeland hills from its castle ruins. The town also boasts a selection of bars and restaurants, the Brewery Arts Centre and the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and Museum. For a truly memorable walk, Scout Scar is situated above Kendal's golf course, with stunning views over the Lyth Valley to the Lakeland hills in the north, the Yorkshire wind farms in the east and south to the estuary of Morecambe Bay. Windermere is just 30 minutes away where you can explore the town or enjoy a boat trip on the lake.

This superb holiday home is in an ideal location for exploring all that The Lake District has to offer, all year round.

An historic Lakeland town with a fine reputation for shopping, Kendal sits on the banks of the River Kent and is known as the Southern Gateway to the Lakes. Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th Century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. The Abbot Hall Art Gallery's regular collection exhibits portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay. Kendal itself is ideally placed for exploring South Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales and beyond. With other attractions such as Kendal Museum and the Museum of Lakeland Life, Lake Windermere and the wider National Park within easy reach, Kendal provides a superb base for a relaxing break.

And the location was great. We visited the Maize farm just around the corner with 4 children ranging from 18 months up to 8 and they all had a great time. Would also recommend the Hare & Hounds in Leven just a 5 min drive away for eat in food, or their take away pizzas - we tried and loved both!

We did have to restart the boiler as it went off showing an error one night. Might be worth keeping an eye on that in case it starts happening regularly.

Very comfortable and cosy. The rooms are much larger than the photos show. We have just spent Christmas 2022 there - a family of 5 adults and 2 teenage children and plenty of room for everyone in the lounge, dining room and kitchen with spacious bedrooms. Lots of local walks and a few miles from Kendal. Also, easily accessible to the heart of the Lakes - Ambleside/ Windermere about 30 minutes drive. We would highly recommend this property as a holiday home.
