Guests say

Bay View Cottage is a well-maintained property with clean bedrooms, bathrooms, and a well-equipped kitchen. Guests enjoy the spacious upstairs living area, the large rear garden, and the property's suitability for exploring the southern lakes. Some guests noted challenges with the driveway access and a fousty smell upon arrival, but these were minor points in otherwise positive experiences.

The property is generally praised for its cleanliness, especially in the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen. However, there were isolated complaints about a fousty smell and an ant infestation, which slightly lower the score.

The location is appreciated for its proximity to exploring the southern lakes and the views it offers. However, concerns about the walk to the pub and the property's entrance directly onto a fast road slightly affect the score.

The cottage is considered comfortable, with good-sized bedrooms and a delightful upstairs living space. However, some guests found the mattresses hard and the driveway challenging, which impacts the comfort level for some.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and clean bathrooms. However, there are minor points about torn curtains, bare lamps, and an oven that may not work perfectly. No specific mention of maintenance issues or gifts, so the score for maintenance is null and cannot be accurately assessed for thoughtfulness.

There is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate the level of thoughtfulness. Therefore, this score is set to null.

About this property

Nestled in idyllic, emerald countryside on the outskirts of Flookburgh in Cumbria, lies the charming, three-bedroom holiday home of Bay View Cottage. Boasting off-road parking, enclosed lawned gardens to the front and rear, and superb views looking out upon Morecambe Bay and the Arnside & Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this delightful property makes a perfect base for a family or group of six seeking a refreshing, self-catered escape just south of the magnificent Lake District National Park. Step into your lovely new home-from-home, where you will be greeted by a collection of well-presented living spaces. On the ground-floor, you will find a fully-equipped kitchen where the chosen chef can get to work rustling up a delicious, home-cooked dinner for the whole group.

Savour your meals with your loved ones at the dining table, before you head upstairs to kick back and relax in the sitting room, the space kept warm by a tasteful woodburning stove, as you enjoy a movie marathon on the sleek, Smart TV. When sleep inevitably calls, head downstairs to rejuvenate with a bath or shower before you hunker down for a much-needed rest in one of three plush bedrooms. Wake up to amazing views of the surrounding rolling hills before you head out to explore your local area. A brief walk into Flookburgh will bring you to the Premier convenience store where you can stock up on homely essentials, whilst a hearty pub lunch can be had at the family-ran Hope & Anchor or nearby Pheasant Inn.

A short drive away, you can enjoy a peaceful stroll through the Holker Hall & Gardens or the Ornamental Gardens in Grange-over-Sands, or even take in views of the bay at Humphrey Head. For a day out, head north to close-by Cartmel, a historic Cumbrian village home to the Cartmel Racecourse, the tranquil waters of the River Eea, and the world-famous, Michelin-starred restaurant of L'Enclume, which offers one of the best dining experiences in the whole country. Make your next stay in Cumbria one to remember by booking a stay at Bay View Cottage.

A superb base to explore this interesting and beautiful area, the historic village of Flookburgh is set near the shores of Morecambe Bay on the outskirts of the magnificent Lake District. It is thought that the locally-caught Fluke fish take their name after the village, and once, Flookburgh was a popular resting point for travellers crossing the sands from Lancaster and still provides a home for cockle and shrimp fishers. Facilities in the village include a pub, a grocery, a chemist, a Post Office and two food outlets. The Cumbrian Coastal Way footpath passes nearby and a short walk away from the village is delightful countryside, such as Humphrey Head, views of the bay, with its wading bird life, and Coniston's mountain range. A few minutes’ drive or a pleasant off road walk leads to historic Cartmel, with its beautiful Priory, popular race course, antique and gift shops, pubs and restaurants; including the Michelin Star-rated L’Enclume. Just over a mile away you will find the beautiful house and gardens of Holker Hall and also nearby you can try horse riding just six miles to the north at Bigland, or visit the Edwardian resort of Grange, which offers a range of hotels, restaurants, shops, a traffic-free promenade, ornamental gardens and golf courses.

The cottage was in a perfect position for our weekend and we enjoyed watching the world go by from the upstairs living room. The parachutes being dropped just outside was a bonus! We enjoyed a really nice meal at The Pheasant Inn and did a couple of excellent walks from Cartmel. I do believe that the Lake District was one of the only places in the country not to suffer from significant rainfall that weekend so all in all it was a great success

Well cleaned. Well equipped kitchen and bathrooms. Slightly less view than the photos suggest. Small defects: curtains are torn from the hooks in the bedrooms, bare energy saving lamps without a cover in the bedrooms. For charging an electric car, contact the owner and pay separately. Driving onto the site was easy even with our wide car, but be careful when driving away, because people drive quite fast on the road in front of the house. There is also sufficient parking space behind the house. The walk over Humphrey Head is recommended, but go at low tide and wear boots.

The second thing was how infested the kitchen/dining area was with ants. The bed sheets also shared the same smell and the mattresses were so hard to sleep on.
