Push open the impressive front door to be welcomed into a spacious open-plan living room, where the characterful exposed beams frame the room which houses everything you and your loved one could need during a week-long break to the countryside setting. The kitchen comes with all the essentials to cater your own delicious evening meals, whilst the sitting area houses a plush L-shape sofa, perfect for cosying up in front of the woodburning stove and tuning into the TV. The character of the cottage is continued into the double bedroom, where you will find a well-presented bed, exposed beams and a couple of steps lead up to a small mezzanine-style sitting area, where you can look forward to unwinding with a good book in hand. To the outside find a small garden area, complete with an artificial lawn and seating, so that you and your loved one can soak up the sun whilst admiring the surroundings. If you can tear yourself away from this idyllic base, a short walk will bring you to a local pub serving food, whilst the nearby town of Chesterfield offers a larger selection of pubs and restaurants, as well as a choice of shops for picking up the essentials. Whilst visiting the town, spend a moment or two within Queens Park to enjoy a leisurely stroll around the lake and the summer bandstand, or spend some time at the museum and theatre. Brush up on the local history by venturing to the Elizabethan Hardwick Hall with its picturesque gardens or spend time at 17th Century mansion of Bolsover Castle. The historic market town of Chesterfield acts as the gateway to the Peak District, and has much to offer visitors. The town is famous for its 14th Century church with "Crooked Spire", twisting curiously from its true centre, while the frequent bustling market days are ideal for exploring the many different specialist shops and stalls which line the old Market Hall and charming Shambles beyond. The town also boasts Queens Park, with its lake, walks and summer bandstand, as well as a museum and theatre. Nearby, the Elizabethan Hardwick Hall is still impressive today, with its 6 grand towers elaborately monogramed with Bess of Hardwick’s initials, overlooking the superb gardens and walled courtyards of the grounds. Also popular is the semi-ruined 17th Century mansion of Bolsover Castle, set high on a wooded hilltop, looking west towards the heights of the Peak District. Chesterfield has a host of other attractions within easy reach, such as Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, the amenities of Matlock and Bakewell, or the opera at Buxton. An interesting base for a varied break.
