Guests say

Stable Barn in Ashbourne offers a cosy, comfortable stay with friendly owners and a welcoming atmosphere. Nestled in a peaceful village, it's an ideal base for exploring the Peak District, with local walks and a pub nearby. Guests appreciate the clean, well-equipped property and the thoughtful touches like wine and biscuits, though some noted areas for improvement.

Most guests found the cottage clean and well-kept, with fresh bedding and towels. However, a few mentioned issues with mould and a need for a deeper clean in places like the washing machine, which slightly lowers the score.

The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to local attractions, and being central to many planned activities. The village's charm and the ease of starting walks from the property contribute to a high score.

Guests generally found the cottage cosy and the beds comfortable. Some concerns were raised about the size of the shower and early morning disturbances, but overall, the comfort level was deemed satisfactory.

The property is well-stocked with kitchen utensils and generally well-equipped. However, guests noted that some facilities could be updated, such as cooking utensils and Wi-Fi connectivity, which affects the score.

Many guests mentioned the thoughtful gestures of wine and biscuits, which added to their positive experience. While these gifts are appreciated, it's important to note they are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

This is a delightful little semi-detached barn conversion, on the owners’ working livestock farm on the edge of the very pretty Peak District village of Wetton. On arrival, enter into the practical kitchen, complete with a dining table for enjoying a tasty evening meal. Two steps down from the kitchen is a cosy sitting room, with stone windowsills and a full-length window looking out over the village, while completing this welcoming room is a warming woodburner-effect electric fire. The staircase leads directly from the sitting room, arriving firstly at the cosy twin bedroom. Then, take another three steps to the shower room and double bedroom to the left, again with a window for gazing out over the village.

There is plenty of parking available and a front courtyard with a bench makes a lovely spot for a coffee in the sun. Wetton itself is a lovely little village, with a good pub serving food. From Wetton, there are many varied things to explore, starting with a network of footpaths and the Dove and Manifold Valleys, which also have great cycle routes. Thor’s Cave offers an exciting opportunity for exploration and also has amazing views from the prow. The village of Hartington is just five miles away, with a traditional village feel and a range of shops and places to eat.

Alton Towers is also less than half an hour's drive away, making Stable Barn just the place to enjoy the wide choice of different attractions the Peak District has on offer!

Recommend Ilam, Tissington, Thorpe. Stable Barn is good value for money, clean and had everything needed for a pleasant stay. The wine milk and biscuits was a nice surprise .

Living room cold at night.Bed linen and towels were clean. Picture shown from front on your site not what we saw or the inside. Kitchen needs decorating bare plaster walls.

For years we've had fantastic holiday breaks with Sykes. We've always found the standard second to none, however our recent one at Stable Barn was terrible. There was mould in most rooms. The bathroom ceiling was particularly bad and smelled mouldy as you entered. The bedroom wallpaper was hanging off around the windows and mould crept up most corners and covered the back of the furniture. There was more mould downstairs in the living room and kitchen and damp patches everywhere. The kitchen needs painting immediately because the bare plastering looked a mess. We'd arranged for a friend to come and join us but she refused once we told her about the state of mould everywhere and the photos we sent her. There was also a broken clothes rail instead of a wardrobe. The whole place was grubby with cobwebs everywhere. We have photographic evidence if you want it.
