Venture into Battle to stock up on local produce or dine out in a friendly pub. Head down to Hastings or Bexhill to picnic on the beach and dip in the sea. Pull on your walking boots and stride out to explore the undulating landscapes of the enchanting High Weald. Amble 1.5 miles on foot to visit Battle Abbey and the site where the Battle of Hastings took place in 1066. History lovers will also wish to visit the 14th-century moated Bodiam Castle, 8.5 miles away, while avid readers can head to the National Trust’s Bateman’s, the family home of novelist and children’s writer Rudyard Kipling, 7.5 miles away.

The lounge, which is one small step up, is a bright, welcoming space, where you can cuddle up on the sofa to survey the scenery or watch a film on the Smart TV. Slide the patio doors open in here on fine days and step straight outside to take in the fresh country air and perhaps greet the sheep. As the sun sets over the fields of East Sussex, amble through to the elegant double bedroom to rest your head on your pillow. Indulge in a gentle start to the morning with a cup of tea in bed as you watch a second Smart TV. Take care entering and leaving the modern shower room, where there are two steep steps and the head-height is restricted.
