About this property

Woodside is an agreeable single-storey house within the High Weald National Landscape, in Battle, East Sussex. Ideal for families, this pet-friendly abode boasts a garden, a nearby river, and proximity to the South Downs National Park. Park up on the private driveway after making your way along a quiet country lane, where off-road parking for several cars makes arriving and settling in easy. Head up a few steps and step into the hallway, a practical space to drop bags and settle in before exploring the rest of the property. Move through to the sitting room, where carpeted flooring and a corner sofa create a comfortable place to unwind.

Settle into the armchair or stretch out on the sofa and switch on the large mounted TV after a day exploring, making this an easy space to relax together. Continue into the kitchen/diner, where wooden flooring and a bright, contemporary finish bring a fresh feel to the space. Store your ingredients in the fridge/freezer before firing up the range cooker and gas hob to prepare a hearty meal, while the breakfast bar offers a spot for morning coffee or a quick bite. When everything is ready, gather around the dining table and enjoy mealtimes together, whether it’s a laid-back breakfast or a sociable evening meal.

When the day draws to a close, retire to one of three bedrooms. The super-king-size room offers a peaceful place to unwind, with a window overlooking the garden, while the double bedroom provides a comfortable retreat. The twin room is spacious and well-suited to families or friends sharing, and patio doors allow easy access out to the garden. In the morning, freshen up in the bathroom, where you can choose between a soak in the bath or a refreshing shower over. Step outside into the large garden, where there is plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors. Settle into the furniture with a drink, fire up the barbecue for an alfresco meal, or make use of the football nets, swing, and trampoline for some family fun.

As the evening sets in, sink into the hot tub and let the bubbles help you unwind beneath the open sky. For added flexibility, a caravan on-site can accommodate two additional guests on request, making this an ideal base for larger groups, with pets also welcome to join in the stay. For days out, explore your surroundings within High Weald National Landscape, where rolling countryside, ancient woodland, and scattered medieval manors create a setting made for walking and taking in the views. Step into history at Bodiam Castle, a striking 14th-century fortress with a surrounding moat, towers to climb, and exhibitions that bring its past to life.

Visit Battle Abbey and wander the ruins before crossing the historic battlefield where one of England’s most famous clashes took place. For wider exploration, head into the South Downs National Park, where chalk hills, peaceful bridleways, and miles of walking and cycling routes offer space to slow the pace. Make the most of your countryside escape at Woodside.

Battle is a quaint town in East Sussex situated inland and about 6 miles from the more vibrant sister, seaside town of Hastings. Both are famous for their involvement with the battle between William the Conqueror and King Harold in 1066 which changed the course of English history forever. With its narrow alleys, Battle prides itself on remaining a historic landmark, although it is now a bustling and busy place that welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world each year. Visitors come to indulge in the delights that tea rooms such as Mrs Burton's can offer with high tea being served on tall cake stands in a quintessential English parlour dating back to the 16th century. They can browse around charming shops selling local produce and hand-made goods, local butchers and organic vegetable stores where cheeses and wines made only a few miles away are on sale. But, standing proud over this lovely town so full of history, is Battle Abbey. Majestic in its appearance and, although with part of it's buildings now laying in ruins, it still attracts visitors who explore its battlegrounds and Abbey ruins. On the green, events and exhibitions take place throughout the year from costumed marble matches to medieval fayres and scarecrow competitions. Only a short drive away Hastings offers visitors the chance to enjoy a day by the sea, swimming or sailing, fishing or wind-surfing. Or why not dine alfresco at one of the numerous restaurants in the old town with its view over Hastings Castle on the hill, before taking in a show or a play at one of the theatres close by? Separated by only a few miles, but joined by history, Hastings and Battle are towns that offer excitement and enjoyment at any time of year.
