About this property

Overlooking the picturesque Old Town of Rye in East Sussex is this delightful, end-terrace cottage, Lantern Cottage. Although a period cottage with plenty of character, the property has been stylishly appointed for one or two couples to explore the coast or venture into High Weald AONB. Find Lantern Cottage tucked away down a quaint, cobbled alley on a row of red-brick cottages for a picturesque holiday setting. Be welcomed into a bright and airy open-plan living space, thoughtfully decorated and equipped with everything you need for a self-catering stay; the kitchen area will entice any budding chef, complete with a dishwasher for fuss-free clean ups. Dine at the stylish glass table for four with a glass of bubbly to toast to your retreat. For evening entertainment, a large, flat-screen TV is set on the wall in front of cushioned seats to sink into after a busy day. Choose between two lovely bedrooms overlooking Rye's Old Town to retire for the night; a king-size and a double both have attractive colour schemes and furnishings to suit any taste. In the morning, hang your towel on the heated towel rail of the sleek, contemporary bathroom before enjoying a hot shower; there's even a washing machine to keep your clothes fresh throughout your stay! Rye's attractions and amenities are right on your doorstep, whether that's dining in the nearby Ship Inn, stocking up at the supermarket or soaking up the local history; browse antique emporiums, enjoy harbour views from Rye Castle Museum or visit Rye Harbour Discovery Centre. Camber Castle is another must-visit just south of Rye for guided tours of the remains of a historic fort built by Henry VIII! If it's outdoor adventures you seek, High Weald AONB is known for its unspoilt landscapes spanning woodland, hills and medieval manors, whilst Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a must for wildlife lovers. Stop off in Battle to visit the majestic Abbey and the historic Hastings Battlefield, before dining at The Railway Country Pub. Sun seekers will relish Camber just a short journey away from Camber Sands, offering watersports and glorious golden sands, as well as the nearby Rye Golf Club. Further along the coast brings you to Hastings with its Contemporary Art Gallery, True Crime Museum and the looming ruins of Hastings Castle with its dungeons, whilst a pebbled beach awaits avid swimmers. Lantern Cottage is sure to please guests on their next holiday along the coast of East Sussex!

Quiet, but right in the middle of town. The cottage is light and roomy, and ceilings and doorways are high enough not the hit your head when you are tall. Bed and bathroom were very comfortable, the seating in the livingroom is very low and soft though, so I decided to pile up the cushions to make it more comfortable. But that would not keep me from booking again.

We found the facilities well provided, the seating and bed comfortable and the bath/shower arrangement fine. The Wi-Fi was a little unreliable and we were a bit unprepared for the steep stairs, but otherwise, we had a great break, thanks.
