Anvil Cottage receives high praise for its charming character, peaceful location, and welcoming hosts. Guests consistently highlight the cottage’s cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped facilities, making it an ideal base for exploring the Cotswolds. The thoughtful touches and attention to detail create a homely atmosphere. While a few minor issues are mentioned, such as limited kitchen equipment and occasional maintenance niggles, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
The majority of guests describe the cottage as spotlessly clean, with immaculate bedding and linen. A small number of reviews mention minor issues such as cobwebs or needing to clean crockery, but these are rare exceptions.
The location is frequently praised for its tranquillity, proximity to local attractions, and easy access to the Cotswolds. The setting opposite a popular pub and near village amenities is a recurring highlight.
Guests find the cottage very comfortable, with spacious bedrooms, cosy living areas, and quality beds. A few mention preferences for pillow firmness or mattress type, but overall comfort is highly rated.
Facilities are generally considered excellent, with well-equipped kitchens, good bathrooms, and thoughtful extras. Some guests note minor improvements could be made, such as more kitchenware, a freezer, or improved seating, but these do not detract significantly from the overall experience.
Many guests appreciate welcome packs, fresh flowers, and helpful local information, though it is politely noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay. Hosts are described as friendly and considerate, enhancing the overall experience.
Anvil Cottage is a hidden gem in the heart of this picturesque Cotswolds town. This quaint cottage is tucked away in a quiet area of Churchill, not far from the charming towns of Chipping Norton and Stow on the Wold. The home's interior is a good size for its purpose, providing a relaxing environment for a family of four in its two upstairs bedrooms with attached bathrooms and its downstairs living room and kitchen. The living room has a traditional wood burning stove for warmth and doors leading out to the garden creating a homely ambience; the kitchen is well and fully equipped, but with such a great pub right across the street and others in the nearby villages, you may decide to splurge on a regular basis!
Additionally, there is a conservatory that looks out onto the garden, which features lovely cottage-style planting and is an excellent compliment to the home's design. Just beyond the garden's gates is a fantastic playing field complete with a sizable open area, cricket pitch, and a modest playground. This welcoming cottage in a picturesque Cotswolds town is ideal for a wonderful holiday.

The owners Anne-Marie and Paul have furnished the cottage to a high specification. We would certainly recommend Anvil Cottage.

Everything we could possibly want in the kitchen was provided. We did take a lot of our own cutlery plates but there was no need to. We visited all local sites had a lovely afternoon in Chipping Norton. The heritage centre is a good place to go if like us you like learning about the history of the village. Again a big thank you to Paul and Ann Marie for letting us stay in your beautiful cottage . David and Shirley Gaskin

It was just off the beaten track but we were able to get to see all sorts of sites and meet all sorts of friends in the Cotswolds during our stay. We felt completely at home. I enjoyed sitting in the conservatory over breakfast as the sun came up or in the secluded garden later in the day. Both bedrooms were of a good size with en suites and the kitchen diner had everything we wanted and really couldn't ask for more.
