Guests say

Running Waters is a well-received lodge with guests praising its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and thoughtful touches such as welcome gifts. The location is appreciated for its quietness and proximity to local attractions, despite some comments on the need for a car. Facilities like the on-site pub and pool are highlights, although some guests noted room for improvement in maintenance and the addition of Wi-Fi.

The majority of reviews commend the lodge for its cleanliness, with several guests describing it as spotless and well-maintained. A few guests mentioned minor issues such as crumbs on chairs and a damp smell, but these seem to be exceptions rather than the rule.

Guests enjoy the lodge's location for its tranquillity and accessibility to both Devon and Cornwall. Some guests advised that a car is necessary to reach nearby villages, and a few mentioned poor signage within the site. The proximity to on-site amenities like the pub and pool was frequently appreciated.

Comfort is generally rated highly, with guests finding the beds comfortable and the lodge spacious. However, there were comments about hard pillows and the need for mattress toppers, suggesting that while the lodge is comfortable, there is room for improvement in this area.

Facilities are well-regarded, particularly the on-site pub and pool. Guests mentioned the convenience of having a well-equipped kitchen and appreciated the inclusion of a washing machine. Criticisms include the lack of Wi-Fi, poor TV reception, and some maintenance issues like tired decor and long grass around the site.

The owners' thoughtfulness is frequently highlighted, with mentions of welcome gifts such as wine, scones, and even dog treats. While these gestures are warmly received, it should be noted that such gifts are a courtesy and not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Running Waters is an immaculate and spacious villa-style accommodation at Tamar Valley Resort in Callington, boasting a well-presented composition for a family or friends to come together and enjoy the enveloping Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is a wealth of facilities to be enjoyed on-site which include indoor and outdoor heated swimming pools, a bar, restaurant and shop at your convenience. Arranged within a small cluster along the valley stream, this lodge-style holiday home has an upside down interior presented over two floors with decked terraces enjoying the outside space. A family shower room is tiled in an all-white finish and accompanies three bedrooms across the ground floor.

The double room boasts a Jack-and-Jill bathroom, built-in wardrobe and a glass door leading out onto a patio positioned at the rear, delightfully presented, overlooking the valley with table and chairs for you to relax, unwind and benefit the fresh air and peaceful surroundings. Upstairs you will be delighted to find a bright and sunny open-plan living area with patio doors stepping out onto a decked balcony, with rural vistas and garden furniture to sit out on. Make good use of the kitchen, which provides a helpful range of appliances within a modern set-up. The communal grounds are well-maintained and are ideal for children to play ball games.

This retreat is excellently placed for guests looking to explore both Cornwall and Devon with some fantastic local attractions nearby including the National Trust property, Cotehele, a Tudor house and valley garden estate set above the River Tamar. The wider region offers glorious sandy beaches at Whitsand Bay with dramatic scenery and abrupt cliffs, whilst Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor National Park with billowing moorlands and a myriad of historic sites and monuments present a rambler's dream. Running Waters is a splendid property resting in the heart of natural beauty.

Callington is a Cornish market town, rich in mining heritage and overlooked by Kit Hill, the highest point in the area, donated to the people of Cornwall by Prince Charles to celebrate the birth of Prince William. From the top of Kit Hill there are fabulous views across south-east Cornwall as far as Plymouth Sound. Callington is set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and offers a good selection of shops, inns and cafes, as well as being the home of Ginsters Cornish pasties. A few miles away, the quaint village of Calstock clings to the steep banks of the river Tamar and is dominated by the splendid Calstock Railway Viaduct, a giant 11-arched stone construction supporting one of Britain’s most picturesque branch lines running through the Tamar Valley. Other interesting places along the river are Cotehele, a beautiful historic house and gardens owned by the National Trust with a small quay and inn, and Morwhellam Quay, a theme park that staged a living history production for the BBC and where visitors can explore the rich mining heritage and watch blacksmiths, potters and craftsmen at work. The pannier market town of Tavistock is only nine miles from Callington and is well worth a visit on your way to a day’s walk on Dartmoor. A splendid base to explore south Cornwall and West Devon.
