Continue your exploration on to Polperro, a quaint fishing village with a plethora of character, small shops, eateries, and a selection of stunning coves to explore. Alternatively, take a short drive to Seaton for a tranquil beach walk, hike through Seaton Valley Countryside Park, and a spot of lunch near the riverfront, before returning home to Sun Cottage, your perfect base for exploring Cornwall. You can look forward to a holiday full of adventure at Sun Cottage.

Looe is Cornwall’s second largest fishing port and hence there is always a lively maritime bustle around the quay area of East Looe, which is connected to the quieter West Looe by a seven arched 19th century bridge over the River Looe. You can also catch the river taxi between East and West Looe. East Looe has narrow cobbled streets, twisting alleyways and plenty of tourist shops, whilst West Looe has a lovely outlook across the harbour. Looe’s viewpoint, Banjo Pier, can be reached from the quay and is a great spot to watch the returning fishing trawlers and look across the bay to Looe Island, which can be walked to occasionally at very low tides. The sandy Looe beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand. There is also a great rock pool area at Hannafore that children will love. West Looe has a Heritage Centre that recently opened in the Old Sardine Factory with a climbing wall and a cafe and the delightful Kilminorth Woods have way marked walks through the majestic oak wood, rich in plant, insect and bird life. Apart from beach activities in this part of south east Cornwall, there are many mining remains on Bodmin Moor and in the Tamar Valley and much of the mining landscape has World Heritage status. This area of Cornwall has inspired writers, such as Daphne du Maurier and much of Bodmin Moor has inspired legends linked with King Arthur. There is much to explore in this beautiful part of Cornwall.

It was very clean (apart from the ensuite shower needing a bit of deep cleaning) We had a great week in Looe, with good weather. Shops and eateries are within easy walking distance, which was good for me, with limited mobility. The sofas and beds were comfy and the cottage is very spacious. However, there were too many things wrong with the property for us to contemplate either returning or recommending it. First the outside area: described as "enclosed" we were very concerned that there is access for anyone to walk in from the streets, as there is no gate to prevent this. We didn't feel able to leave the patio doors unlocked for this reason. Also there were weeds and moss that should have been cleared prior to our arrival. There was no welcome pack or handy clear instructions for anything. The wi-fi code took some finding, tucked away in an info book in a drawer under the coffee table. There was no starter pack for the woodburner, despite this being stated in the proprty description. We asked the caretaker for some but he replied that they do not provide this. Luckily we found an electric heater stored away in a cupboard. We had no hot water for 48hours because we were under the misunderstanding that we needed to know how the "gas range for hot water" worked and we couldn't find instructions anywhere; apparently there were controls by the back door, which we hadn't seen. When we turned the ensuite light on, there was an unbearable noise from the fan, which meant we couldn't use the light at all, until the caretaker fixed this. Although it was known that the shower head was faulty (it had Heath Robinson repair work on it) no permanent repair had been arranged. There's no alternative shower for hairwashing in the bathroom either. There are no wardrobes in the twin room. There are no doors on either the twin or upper floor rooms. Lighting in the living room is very poor in one half of the room. Luckily a previous reviewer had mentioned this and I had packed USB chargeable lamps with me (one of which was put to use in the ensuite before the fan noise problem was fixed) The most annoying aspect of this property is that there are no coatpegs anywhere! There is plenty of room in the hallway to fix numerous coatpegs and we failed to understand why there were none. Our coats spent most of the week on the floor, having fallen off the shoe rack. There were no less than 4 remote controls for the tv, yet we failed to find any workable volume control in any of them. Only one yale key is available for the property, despite there being 2 locks. I am unable to use the keysafe, being partially sighted and the caretaker was understandably reluctant to provide the only other available key. The thing that upset us most about our week was that the caretaker entered our holiday home to fix some things without first asking or informing us of his intentions. He texted me after he had been.In our opinion, this is an absolute no-no - totally unacceptable!

Everything you need in the large kitchen. Bedrooms good but could do with a rail or something in the twin room to hang clothes. The shower is also a bit small in the on suite. Plenty of room downstairs. Good sized bathroom, bath but no shower. Could not use the garden chairs as they needed a good clean. Over all a nice cottage and would stay here again. Only one bath towel each provided for a week and one hand towel in each bathroom/shower room. Had to wash them and also bought more in case needed. Did get the dry quick as sunny weather. There was 5 of us staying so more towels were needed.

The beds were comfortable. The plumber had to be called to the shower as we couldn’t regulate the temperature, he said it needed a new part and as long as we didn’t touch the temperature dial it would be ok . It was in a great location close to the beach and shops, however we did have trouble sleeping at times due to the amount and closeness of the seagulls. The cottage advertised outside space with a table and chairs and we looked forward to be sitting outdoors in the sun for a meal or a drink, however we didn’t sit out once due to it being very dirty, the paving slabs were filthy, there was moss and weeds growing between them and the chairs and sun umbrella cover had green mould on them. The bbq cover was filthy . We complained upon return and were told that a call to the cleaner would have quickly solved the problem, but the outdoor space should have been clean and tidy when we arrived, in my opinion it need jetwashing.
