Upon arrival all three of my family members smelt the very musty, mould smell coming from the house as soon as we opened up the front door and stepped inside. The damp smell and humidity inside made it apparently clear there must be damp in the house and we found four leaks from the hot water boiler in the kitchen. Which we filmed and photographed. Then we saw large rust circle marks on the kitchen floor and rust marks from the steel joinery points in the bathroom downstairs also. We soon found the steel stool chairs which are shown in photos of this property in the kitchen, which were now stored in the upstairs cupboard, that had been removed from the kitchen covered in excessive rust all over the steel round circle base and stool legs. This was the exact same shape and size of the rust marks on the kitchen floor. Which shows the damp and water leaks were not recent and had been happening for a while, when it has affected and rusted the steel furniture which was then removed and placed out of sight in the upstairs hallway cupboard. Then after 20 mins of being in the house we all started to cough, one of us was coughing very bad. The thick humid air, very damp was causing health issues for all of us. We phoned Sykes Cottages and told them of the current state of the property and we told them we had to leave as the current state of the holiday cottage was not healthy or safe to remain in overnight and keep breathing in this damp, musty, moldy air. We informed Sykes immediately, called the next day also, in the end we were told the owner would not refund our large sum of money for the one week stay we booked. So this was an appalling and unsafe holiday cottage. We were told an inspector from Sykes attended the house six days after we left. We had photos, videos which clearly showed the poor condition and unsafe condition of this holiday let but we were given no compensation at all. The evident rust in this home is not possible for a recent water leak this is from longer term water damage and leak resulting in various rusting in this property. This was so distressful to all of us.

This smell of sewage lingered for the remainder of our stay, I would be very surprised if previous guests had not reported this before. Also the heating system was poor , living/dining area was very cold due to size of the radiators compared to the room size. The electrical installation seemed unsafe i.e. extension cables used as a permanent fixture throughout the house and in one case a single extension plug with 4 way extension, plugged into it. Internal doors poorly fitted i.e. handles too close to the door frame and can graze your knuckles when opening or closing.
