About this property

Well-positioned within the fishing port town of Newlyn in Cornwall is Walter, a characterful two-bedroom cottage. Enjoying sea views, just a stone's throw away from the harbour and beach, whilst featuring original beamed ceilings, a stone feature fireplace, and a well-equipped kitchen, the charming property welcomes four guests, perfect for couples, friends, and families alike. Make use of the open-plan living space, dotted with all expected appliances and homely furnishings to ease your self-catering stay; prepare meals, dine, relax, and read one of many books on offer. Head outside to the rear courtyard for a sundowner, before returning indoors to freshen up in the spacious bathroom. Whether you choose to head out into Newlyn or stay in for the night, when sleep calls, select between the super-king-size and king-size rooms, both offering ample storage, zip/link features, and plush bedding. Come morning, head down to the harbour or stock up on the essentials at a local convenience store, before kickstarting your itinerary of coastal attractions; take a stroll along Newlyn Tolcarne Beach, tour Newlyn Art Gallery, or take up a challenge at Cornwall's Great Escape Rooms Newlyn, all within walking distance to Walter. The bustling town of Penzance is nearby, recommended to visit for promenade views, to brush up on your local knowledge at Penlee House Gallery & Museum, or to enjoy the outdoors at either Trengwainton Garden, an exotic landscape, or Morrab Gardens, the perfect oasis for a picnic. Heading towards St Ives, follow Penwith Heritage Coast to reach the vantage point of Man’s Head, before visiting St Ives Lighthouse and touring Tate St Ives, a museum filled with local art exhibitions. Plan your next trip to Cornwall with Walter as your abode.

Although it is still a charming town in its own right and is tucked next to Penzance, Newlyn is the third-largest fishing port in England and a crucial Port of Refuge for all seagoing vessels. This Cornish village is centred around the harbour, with its ancient 800-year-old quay—from which, and not Plymouth, the Mayflower set sail for America—curving around a few tiny craft on the western side. The flat Mousehole to Marazion bike path and the Cornwall Coastal Path both pass through the town, which is known for the Newlyn School of Art and Newlyn Copper. Both offer a wealth of natural beauty and fauna, including frequent sightings of grey seals, dolphins, and basking sharks. Penwith has some beautiful beaches where you may surf and go sea bass fishing. The Cornish coast is known for its surfing.

A great position for walking into Penzance and Mousehole and close to Newlyn’s wonderful fish shops

The cottage is very warm and welcoming with a nice welcome pack of fresh bread, croissants, butter and milk. The cottage had also been nicely decorated for the Christmas season. We had everything we needed inside and out. The owner was very helpful on the phone. Improvements as a suggestion only the small courtyard would benefit from a light. Please excuse if there is one and we didn’t manage to locate it. The same would be for the front door. Apart from this as detailed in the property description the cottage is on a hill so you need to be fit to walk up. Parking very easy in public car park based on the middle of the hill.

The cottage is ideally situated just above the harbour in the fishing village of Newlyn where there are plenty of pubs within easy walking distance. We stayed over the Christmas and the hosts had decorated the cottage with lights and a little tree creating a really festive atmosphere. Would we recommend this property? Absolutely!
