Guests say

Teign Vale is widely praised for its stunning location, beautiful views, and spacious, well-equipped accommodation. Guests consistently highlight the comfort, cleanliness, and tranquil setting, with many enjoying the riverside walks, wildlife, and excellent amenities. The hosts are frequently described as welcoming and helpful. While a few minor issues such as narrow access roads, occasional missing essentials, and limited storage are mentioned, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, making this property a favourite for returning guests.

The property is repeatedly described as exceptionally clean and well-maintained, with only rare minor oversights mentioned. Most guests found the accommodation spotless and well-presented.

The location receives near-universal acclaim for its breathtaking views, peaceful setting, and proximity to beautiful walks and nature. The only drawback noted is the narrow country lanes leading to the property.

Guests consistently praise the comfort of the house, especially the beds and bathrooms. The spacious layout and underfloor heating are frequently highlighted, with only occasional comments about storage or lighting.

Facilities are highly rated, with guests enjoying the well-equipped kitchen, games room, and outdoor spaces. Minor suggestions include more kitchen items, mirrors, and improved Wi-Fi, but these do not detract from the overall positive impression.

Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as welcome hampers and helpful hosts. While these gestures are appreciated, it should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Set in the tranquil Teign Valley, Teign Vale makes the most of its position, with a staggering 16 metres of bi-fold doors opening out to a tiled balcony overlooking the beautiful river.

Teign Vale is a beautifully renovated holiday cottage, nestled in the picturesque woodlands of the Teign Valley. The accommodation is all on one level with no internal steps or lips.

A modern and attractive tiled balcony looks out over the river, woods and landscape, the perfect place for spotting birds and wildlife – deer regularly track from the river to the woods. The river is also home to salmon, trout and a family of otters; and there is half a mile of fishing bank.

Inside the property en-suite bedrooms with super-king size beds, two of which can be configured as twin singles beds on request. All the rooms have bi-folding doors that open out onto the balcony, so you could open them all open to create a unique outdoor/indoor space. The large, lawned and level garden is around an acre in size and is the perfect place for children – or adults! – to run around. There’s also a barbecue and fire pit in the garden, along with a separate games barn with a pool table, fridge, dart board and television, perfect for teenagers to escape to.

If you’ve come here for the scenery, there are walks through the woods right from the door; and you can wash off those muddy boots – or dogs – in the Belfast sink with running hot and cold water at the side of the property.

Additional Information:

Beautiful woodland walk along the river bank and through the seasonal flowers of bluebells and daffodils.

Games room with fridge, pool table, dart board (please bring your own darts), television and comfy chairs.

Please bring your own darts for the dartboard.

Fringle pub and Castle Drogo are an hour walk through the woods.

The property is located close to a river so children should be supervised.

Due to neighbouring livestock, fireworks are not permitted at any time of year please.

Two well-behaved dogs welcome (small additional charge).

Highchair, travel cot and stair gate available on request.

This property is far and beyond the best holiday cottage we have stayed at with Rural Retreats and we have visited many great retreats in the past years. Everything encompassed in one holiday break from a fantastic comfortable cottage with surrounding views to die for. The cottage owners and their team really went the extra mile to make our stay a memorable one. The location is really convenient to explore either coastal scenery or inland to the moors. A real hidden gem!

Fantastic property in a most peaceful, stunning location with amazing bi-fold doors from all the rooms. We were lucky with the weather so able to enjoy this feature. Very well equipped house, super comfy beds and great bathrooms. Communication with the host was excellent - highly recommend this property, we would love to stay again.
